Talking Walls

Our home environment speaks for our life. This personal communication has less to do with the verbal and more to do with the physical elements.
Does your taste run to minimalism - a person of few words . . . or to the abundance of an extrovert ? The point is, walls speak . . .

I also find that a homes exterior will tell you a lot about a the people living there. It speaks volumes about how they feel about themselves and the life they have made . Look around your castle, what are your walls saying about you?

  1. My inside speaks of minimalism while my exterior speaks of a renter.

    :)

Are the pictures above of your home?

    They're really beautiful!

  2. Thank you for the top photo - my headboard is very similar to that and I'm planning to paint it white later in the year, as well as repainting the walls to a very soft/pale blue.

Now I know how it will look :)

  3. Totally agree with the statement. Things around us tend to define us.

  5. Oh, I agree. To me, my house looks full but others always ask if I'm a minimalist. I wonder why? I also think you can tell so much about a person by the exterior of their home. Do you think most people realize that? I've also heard that the interior of a womans handbag can tell you a lot about her life! Yikes.

  6. * Vicky, I loved seeing these pics of YOUR WONDERFUL HOME, ESPECIALLY the stone in the front & around the entrance, AND, those terriffic garage doors... LOVE YER CHOICES, gf~~~ I love, too, that it's more of a "natural" look & extremely warm & inviting!!!

Jim & I like/prefer/are pleased that our home in the desert looks much smaller than it actually is...until you enter, that is... then it's such a delightful "surprize", as our new guests always seem to comment. The LAST thing we wanted was some kind of exterior "monument to success", like some of the homes seen today (of course, that's just OUR preference, & we DO believe in "to each his own", for SURE!). I am SOOO COMFY & IN LOVE w/ all the stone/rock & glass we have, & how natural it all is & "works" w/ the desert, mountains & the beauuutiful, blue AZ sky. I like to think that most folks feel the same way about their homes...

I certainly agree w/you re the interior "speaking" about the homeowners~~~ soooo true. It SHOULD reflect them, the family's interests, their life so far, etc., & PERSONALLY, I'd love to see the BEDROOMS of all our friends~ now THAT'S reeeally a "story" in itself, don'tchathink????????

    Hugs,
    Linda

  8. I was wondering if the pics were of your house, seems that they are:) Your home is very lovely. My walls say that I love children, homey family scenes and ancestors. I love these things around me, they say "home" to me. The exterior of my house is on it's way to a makeover so it does not reflect us, yet. But it will. I always enjoy your blog, thanks for it! Hugs ~cindy s~

  10. The last two are mine, the first is a room I did in one day for a client. Thanks everyone and linda, I love that too about a home. Not showing itself all at once is so inviting.

  12. My walls are pretty quiet actually, but the rooms themselves are full of exuberant color and lots of pattern and layers. You might be onto something here with this theory...

  15. It is a bold colour, and very feminine, but in small doses, I like it.

    On those chairs, it's amazing!

  16. I find houses with flat roofing very attractive these days. Not only that they are modern, they look much simpler, too. We've done a renovation in my parents Omaha house, which includes the roof where we made a huge change. We replaced the hipped roof into flat roof. But we got a suggestion that we should consult companies first before deciding.

  17. The exterior of houses is the first thing I look at in Miami houses in our neighborhood -- it does tell you the kind of people who live there. Well, at least. A flat roofing based on my own observation, means that the owner is simple and relaxed. One contractor that I chatted with last week thinks the same thing.
