My Living Room

I few posts back I took the "Brinson Challenge", I was so unhappy with those photos! They were way too dark and my magazine cover had these green lines across it that I could not figure out how to remove. I am so bad with the computer stuff, it is a wonder I can do anything!

I don't know why it is, that my Living Room photos are never good . . . it is a pretty room, but never comes across as so. The green on the walls never comes out as it is, it tends to look busy because of the railing and the dining room with the mural behind it. I know I need a new camera, but what to get??? I need one that's easy to work . . . any suggestions?

I should do a post on the fireplace, it is gas, the surround is 2x4's , then we added plywood, covered with wire, then we put a product on called "quick wall" over the whole thing. The stone came from our own land. I designed it and my hubby and I did it one year for our Christmas present.

Here you can see the dining room in the background.

The room is sunken, you have a step down on each side of the room. The railing goes all the way across. I designed my home where it would seem as if there were no hallways. You are in the foyer and then follow this railing over looking the living room to the bedrooms on the other side. The master bedroom goes off the foyer. I hope this gives a better understand of the space. That other post was just killing me and I just could not let it go . . . lol

The " Brinson " Challenge

Like many of you , I too was blown away by the Jan. issue of House Beautiful showcasing the "Brinson" living room. I rushed out to get my own copy, so I could study it and figure out, just what it was that I was so drawn too.
"The Visual Vamp"http://visualvamp.blogspot.com/ then did a post of her own living room that she re-made using Jill Brinson's for inspiration. I loved it and so did Joni !!!

Joni aka "Cote deTexas" http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/ then did her family room in the 'Brinson style" and challenged blogland to do the same. I thought that would be so much fun . . . if I were not so lazy! But Joni, said, "Please" . . . So, I did a bit of shopping . . .

I got a new pillow, a shawl, some fresh flowers and a few apples . . . made a fake cow hide from a piece of fabric . Not much, but just enough to "Brinson" it !

My cover . . . yours is next!

Quriks or Sensibilites

Kathysue, at "Good Life of Design", had a great post today ! http://goodlifeofdesign.blogspot.com/ It's one of those post that makes one stop and think about themselves. I just loved it and wanted to share it with my readers. She talks about her own "quirks" and ask that we each think about what it is that we really need to be happy in a space. One of my own "quirks" is that I have to have a great bed! I want the best sheets and the best down pillows that I buy. I take my own things with me when I travel . . . Yes, it is a big Quirk, for me.
I also want a clean, uncluttered home, especially the kitchen. I love this kitchen, but I could never leave out the blender and toaster oven ! No way! I have a hand held can opener, I take out my toaster and coffee maker each morning and put them back away before I leave the kitchen.

I have to have warm colors, No bright turquoise for me, thank you! Love this room! For me , this would be perfect.

I could also be very happy here. Warm fire, books and cozy chairs, what else does one need really?

But this is what Kathysue needs . . . a faucet facing the middle of the sink . . . it is the small things , always the small things . . . What is it that you need?

Tablescapes

One of the things I notice most about any home I am in, is the tablescapes. Tablescapes are the "eye candy" of a space. I think they should tell you a little something about the people living there. They should be interesting , but not overwhelming.
I love to include favorite books . . . not only do they show the subjects that I find interesting, but they give the much needed height for my accessories.
I love to display pictures of love ones, just don't get carried away !!!! Live plants are always welcomed, but again, DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY . . .

I change my tablescapes with the changing seasons, this was last year's spring table in my living room. I love white flowers and tulips would have to be my favorite. I grew these in my garden. Yes, I pick my flowers! That is why I grow them.

So tell me, what's on your tables?

The Laundry Room

I just love this sign. Maybe I will make one whenever I get to the re-do of my own laundry room . . .

This laundry room is so "in" right now. It has it all, painted cabinets, front load washer and dryer, the drum shade on the light fixture, the small chic tiles, even the farm house sink . . . I'm in love!

Love this "country cottage" look too. I really need to get started on my own . . . it's so bad . . . I would eat dirt before I would show it to you. lol What's your laundry room look like right now?
