One other thing that can visually stretch the space is to consider the scale of the pattern. I think the tendency is to use too small of a pattern on a floor. It was such a priority when we built the house that I made sure I budgeted for the additional cost of labor and materials to install it! I know I did that in my master bath and made sure the cuts would be right with a dry-lay first before I let them cement it down.
