Red is a "drama queen ," it is hard to compete with and impossible to upstage.
And yet, it can be used as a neutral color . . . working well with most other hues that are paired with it.
As an accent it commands attention . . . providing the punctuation in a well-edited space.
Could you use just a touch, in your own castle?
Red is always fabulous. I love those black twin beds!!! xxx kim
ReplyDeleteIn my world, red is definitely a neutral. Goes with everything, makes me happy. The duvet covers on those beds are gorgeous, btw.
ReplyDeleteRed is a star in my closet but a stranger in my home.
ReplyDeletePretty and also so true!!Darn her, all drama, drama, drama!
ReplyDeleteLeslie
Those duvets are wonderful. I just adore red. It makes me happy to be in rooms with red accessories. Thanks for sharing.

Ah, that second photo...love it. Our little castle definitely has a touch of red, here and there.
ReplyDelete* Yessirreebob, luuuuv red~~~ ALways have it SOMEplace (or two!) in our home (try as I MIGHT, I canNOT break away from it!)~
ReplyDeleteWhen we first married (Yes, back in the ol' horse n' buggy days!), it was "our" color (the man obviously did N*O*T* want "GIRRRRRLY PINNNNKS"!)~~~
BTW, terriffic curtains on PIC #1, & those black beds are toooooo divine, Vicky-girl!!!

Nice post.
ReplyDeleteLike red alot.
Usage of different color themes in my house thru the years constantly changes...
I LOVE red! My kitchen is wallpapered in red and is so comfortable and homey.
ReplyDeleteI just did a post on Pink! I like red as an accent color... any more than that and it is too much for me. Great pics!
ReplyDeleteI love red and I try to have it everywhere in my house!
ReplyDeleteSo funny that you should do a red post after your dining room post. Yep, you guessed it. My dining room is red..... but then that seems to be a popular dining room color. Time for me to change it!!!!!! Love picture #2! Great use of color!
ReplyDeleteHey Vicky, Here's a question for you. I was just up studying the black beds again. Do you think the designer "flipped" the position of those beds? I think the "headboard" that is shown in the picture was actually meant to be the footboard. Since it would have been covered by the bedding, it might have been flipped. What a great idea. It would have been tragic to cover up all of that detail. What doyou think?
ReplyDeleteJust got some red introduced into our living room this year with a pak persian rug. I want to pull it out more with accent pillows but sometimes matching reds can be quite a challenge -- but definitely adds some drama for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe setee under the mirror makes a bold statement. Classy.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I noticed that too. I think it is a great idea. Thanks everyone !
ReplyDeleteO.K....so don;t kill me...I do not own one single RED thing..I love how it looks but it is not for me!! hope you have had a good weekend, talk soon,Chrissy
ReplyDeleteNope, won't see RED in 'my castle'. Not that I don't like it, but it doesn't like me. When I see RED, I actually see RED! It affects me psychologically. Since I am just a serene kind of gal...... not aggressive ...... it seems to agitate me. "That's NO BULL it is THE TRUTH".
ReplyDeleteBeautiful samples of it though! -Brenda-
Brenda, I so understand ... when you look at red, you see "Blue". smiles
ReplyDeleteI'm loving that bedroom. Jacob's room is "the all american boy - red, white & blue" room. I have a dab of red - here and there, especially in the sunporch, but it is more of a brick red almost a cranberry. (You & Mrs. Ben crack me up.) ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Your second picture with the twin beds is one of my all time favorite rooms. It is so soothing yet not boring at all. Love the duvets and the window treatments. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeletehey.... nice post
ReplyDeleteRobyn, my feelings have changed about brenda since I started blogging...on rms I thought she was so nice...lol now, I think she is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved that room with the twin beds. Now that is red done right!
ReplyDeleteit's hard to balance summer and blogging, but I'm out to change all that today
ReplyDeleteOOOOOHHHLALA
speaking of great design, you might n-joy my newest post.
I LOVE the bed frames and the mirror and settee. The colors of everything are beautiful and dramatic...
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and come by again for a visit,
Aimee
Another wonderful post. I just love the description drama queen. You always have great visuals and the right words! Love the little settee. -s
ReplyDeleteI used to have red as my main accent. But my walls were a strong gold. I tried to use it with my butter yellow and it was too strong. It just was not a cottage color. I have small accents around, but not much. It is still the accent color in my kitchen, but I am hoping to change out my canitsters and such to clear glass. I appreciate you tidbits of decorating knowledge. Hugs ~cindy s~
