This room is a little over the top for my taste, but I find the colors stimulating! As an artist, I love color, but in my house I tend to use more subtle colors.
So this is what I call a very "personalized" space which I'm sure totally reflects colors/styles/interests of the room's owner. I find myself pondering what a Homestager would do to depersonalize this space -- hmmm?
While it's not my taste, it isn't all together unpleasant. I don't think staging is necessary, unless the home is for sale, then some editing will be needed, of course. It's the room of a fun person; totally personal. Not a thing wrong with that. Trends and fads are not always meant to be followed and shouldn't be. This is a room of a non-follower and that definitely isn't a bad thing! Don't be afraid to be unique and don't worry about what is in and what is out. My philosophy.
I like the room, it is so vibrant and colorful. It must have been decorated by a person with a vibrant personality, not subdued like mine. I admire vibrant people and rooms like that, but it's not me. Funny thing about those garbage cans. Sometimes they are there when I am signed in and sometimes they aren't. Funny. So glad I could help you. Hugs, ~cindy s~
I would have chosen a pattern for the sofa that pulled all the colors together: the purple's to random & I would have used my fav Ana Design striped tapers on the scones. The white are too plain. The room either needs to embrace the colorful whimsy or not. I rememeber seeing this room & feeling it wasnt finished.
This room gives me a headache, like when you eat too many Sweet Tarts. You should entitle this room "Sugar Rush!" I think the person that decorated this room didn't take their medication on this partcular day, but if you're going for that totally outlandish, completely uncomfortable, 'find out who your friends are' kind of room, then this is for you!
LOL! Thanks for the laugh! (Hope I didn't offend anyone, I am just writing what I feel!) ;-)
I normally do not like purple, but there's something about this room that speaks to me.....don't know quite what it is. Maybe the sofa? Anyway,it has a certain appeal. Did you hear back from your e-mail? She said she had gotten it and was going to e-mail back.
I love the purple sofa and slipper chair. Those two items are so fun and personable, that I'd want to change out the side tables, and substitute the little art and sconces for something larger with a touch of modern (to complement the overhead light fixture more). Perhaps lighter (white?), more contemporary side tables(?) I think I would want them to be a tad lower, too. I think I want to see a little more green in here -- a just a touch more -- to balance out the window coverings, which are so prominent. Maybe change out the little ceramic garden stool for a green one, add a couple of small greens... Would painting the legs of the stool white be too much? Not crazy about the velvet red flowers or whatever. Hmmm....well, those are top of mind. Ok...I've put myself out there for better or worse.....Hope you're doing well, -susan
I LOVE IT ALL!!! Could I live in it?? OF COURSE...it looks so happy and cheerful! I too usually don't like purple...but this I LOVE...would love it better if it were PINK!! But then again, I'm one who's not afraid of color and pattern AT ALL...you've seen the furniture! I love all the pictures you post...some not as well as others, but if you look close enough, there is probably at least one "idea" you can take from it! Thanks for sharing! Thanks everyone for commenting on this space. I saw the photo on another blog and it was used as a room gone , "way wrong". I somehow thought it was charming. The designer stayed consisted with the use of strong color, it has the elements of surprise, and of course the blue was calmed down with the green which is a must for me. I would change a few things , I don't love it all, but overall, I don't think it is bad design. I wanted to see how my readers reacted to it. I think I will add this type of post to my list...it was fun for me, thanks for playing!
* I think a MOST DELIGHTFUL, INTERESTING, WACKY n' FUN, TOTALLY IRREVERENT, VERY SECURE, NON-JUDGEMENTAL, LOYAL-to-the-MAX FRIEND, ART-EDUCATED, YOUNG GAL/ARTEEEEST (highly likely a "wild redhead"??!!??) lives here, Vicky (a New Yorker, maybe?) & I think I'd most definitely enjoy her "GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN" personality~~~ (maybe not a "STEADY diet" of it ...too tiring!... BUUUUT, her energy I*S probably delightfully contagious!!!)~~~
FUN POSTING & I DO like all the individual colors, too!!!~~~~~~~~~~~ IMHO, LIFE'S just TOOOOO SHORT to let it be BORING and/or "WITHOUT SURPRISES"!!!!!~~~~~~~~~~
(Vicky-girl... Just saw your comment~~~ Looks like we were writing at about the same times!!.... Ahhh..... our "great minds are thinking alike again...", huh, honey?)
It is a little to modern for my old fashion taste. I did a post linking your blog today on your inspirational 'thyme in the garden' post.Thank you for inspiring me.
It's almost like the inside of a gypsy wagon, but needs more "stuff" I admire the fearlessness of color, but admit I've gone crazy with color in my home before and quickly became tired of it. The green and purple combo is yummy though, like chuckles candy :+D
This is one very eclectic room, that is for sure!LOL I wouldn't say I could live there, but its owner must be happy with it! And individuality and variety make the world go 'round... :-) Sue
That is QUITE a collection of colors....my favorite is the green in the drapes...I don't mind the lavender, but the blue walls...gotta go. Like the tufted sofa...is that a lucite coffee table?
I thought I explained my thought quite well. Short, to the point and direct! As to what I have in that brain of mine..... trust me.... you don't want to know. :)
LOVE YOU GIRL, and glad I gave you a laugh. Hugs -Brenda-
Do you find this room charming, interesting, just plain awful ect. What would you change? I would love your thoughts on this space.

ReplyDeleteSo this is what I call a very "personalized" space which I'm sure totally reflects colors/styles/interests of the room's owner. I find myself pondering what a Homestager would do to depersonalize this space -- hmmm?
ReplyDeleteIt is growing on me! I must say whomever lives in that space must have a very fun personality!
ReplyDeleteI love the green curtain! (or are those called swags)
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit too composed for my taste, too sit-down feminine-don't touch anything-fragile.
ReplyDeleteI think I will remove all the books from under the table, replace the sofa and drapery with more neutral tones.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very specific taste. Not everyone would be comfortable in this room. I do admire that the owner marched to their own drummer. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteA little too staged! Obviously for a magazine shoot. Too much stimulation, your eyes don't have any one place to settle.
ReplyDeleteArtistic personality.

I could live there for a month or two...it's a lovely space.
ReplyDeleteGoing back to look again....yup, a Cocktail Party with the girls would suit that space just fine.
Then I'd go home to my leather and driftwood...
Best,
Michelle

...a room i would love to have in my home to visit...but would have the rest of the house to live in...
