A while back I learned that most of my readers disliked the colors orange and purple. I have recently done a post on the color "orange", but I don't think I changed anyone's mind. Most of you continued to dislike it . . .
While visiting my friend Greet's blog , "Belgian Pearls"
http://belgianpearls.blogspot.com/ I saw the most amazing purple rooms. Greets was happy to share these images with you. Are these not the most beautiful spaces . . . and don't you dare miss that orange chair . . .
So, I am wondering, have I changed anyone's mind with this "Purple " post?
Well they are beautiful rooms. I love the colors and moodiness they create. But I still couldn't live with them. I can't say you didn't try though!

I used to live in a purple room lol...I loved it but I got my fill :0) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThey feel like museum pieces; well appointed, stylish, but not really livable.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful shade of purple and I guess with the right furnishings I just might could live if it a bit! :) Now the orange I don't know about. I have seen quite a few orange kitchens though, and they surprised me with their cuteness.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;0
I've recently fallen in love with purple and in fact painted my master bedroom purple grape(!) It's very intense but I love it. I've spent most of my adult life surrounded by very muted colours and have just grown so sick of it. Though I am keeping our main living areas a light sandy brown as a sort of neutral between the bright, intense bedrooms. Sort of like a pallette cleanser.
ReplyDeleteI love the pop of orange or purple, just not too much, so I guess I am won over just alittle
ReplyDelete* V-girl, I a*d*o*r*e that pic w/ purple walls n' hot pink n' what, I think it was an orange chair?? FABULOUS (!), as is ANYTHING Greet would share!
ReplyDeleteAm sending you a pic of our DR when we FIRST moved in, and yes, I had "Picasso" paint it PURPLE... we loved it, but then again, I wasn't too sure..... hmmm.... I STILL rather MISS IT, to be honest!!!
Big hugs n' XO,
Linda (How are the floors coming along?)
Purple power is what alot of people say about purple in mid Kansas.
ReplyDeleteI liked the color before moving to this part of the state 10 years ago. I really like lavender!
Have a great week-end,
d
It just struck me reading your post that in my teens we moved to a house and my bedroom had a bright orange wall (with orange/green floral wallpaper on the other three walls). I lived with that for about 3 years and then when I was tired of it, I had my mother paint my room purple. LOL.
ReplyDeleteWe have purple in our living room but it's a very unique shade. The accent wall (bay window) is Benjamin Moore's Cinnamon Slate and the rest of the walls are several shades down that same chip (porcelein) which is really a soft lilac. But then the furniture is dark cherry wood with brown leather chairs and a soft green (eventually to be caramel) sofa and chair and the pak persian rug has purple and teal and red and caramel and brown and cream and green in it so I pull accents from there to go more purple or get a punch of red etc. I tell you -- purple is a very soothing color when it's done right.
Wow. I'm amazed how good purple looks in the kitchen. I had no idea.
ReplyDeleteI really have always loved ALL colors! It's my opinion that you can work with ANY color, and still end up with something breathtaking! ~tina
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your purple room! It's not an ugly purple, but a rich, elegant one. Why, I have a lavender wall in my living room. I love it so much that I won't hang one thing on it. It's also a special case in that in my apartment, you step up from the dining room into the living room, so the wall itself is a piece of art. I didn't go through the rest of your blog because I was so attracted to this room and surprised to see your readers' reactions because it is truly lovely, appealing and interesting! Stan
ReplyDeleteSo happy to answer this question. 10 years ago I married a man who left the country when his decorated "re-did" the house. Girls, hot pink & purple??? For a bachelor!! The kitchen had stainless steel appliances, but the cabinets were purple, done in this very extravagant hand-applied sorta Santa Fe style blobs. He wouldn't allow me to change it. My solution was to paint everything (BFK,Family Room, Entry, etc) this stainless steel gray color, & upholster the furniture with shiny silver silk, all with red accents. Drop Dead Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWho'd have thought? The hot pink is another story.
I'm a color girl. Don't think I ever met a color I didn't like!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I like them both :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous rooms, very elegant!
I always said, "if I was just starting fresh, I would decorate in purple". Like blue, it can be very soothing. NOT COLD Ms. Vicky.....

I think a bright purple or orange room is way too intense for my liking. However a subtle hue of either color as you show in the pictures above can be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThese images are drop dead gorgeous!! I could sit, entertain, play cards, read etc. all day in that fabulous room with the orange chair. It is wow, elegant, classy, chic and traditional all in one!! My center island is styled now in an orange chic siecle tray from Paris with hints of purple , it is fabulous!! (remember though...Miles Redd is my favorite designer after all...I love color and fabulousness...thats why I love your blog)

That is a wonderful shade of purple and the orange chair really looks right. It helps that the rest of the room is so perfectly arranged and the furniture is so beautiful. I love Greet's blog. Hugs, Cindy S.
ReplyDeleteI love the color purple - anyplace. The eggplant hue you have shared with us is so lovely. The orange chair, though I don't normally like orange (too much red in my complexion) ... looks great against it.
ReplyDeleteDear Vicky,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that I just had seen this post! I was so busy these days! Wonderful and thank you so much to mention me in this post!
Hugs and kisses,
Greet
I love these rooms. So, I guess I'm a convert. I missed the orange post. And that would have been an interesting one, as I've been so hooked on that color lately. I carry an orange purse, wrap my neck in orange, don a orange sweater . . . not all at the same time, mind you (smile). When I was working on my beach house, I wanted orange. Somehow it didn't turn out that way. It went blue and green. One day though!! Maybe. Nevertheless, I love this dark brooding purple. cheers -s
ReplyDeleteI adore that orange velvet chair~! I just visited with a friend recently, who just got this really great hooked wool rug in orange, brown and reds, it is gorgeous, she has auburn hair, freckles and luminous caramel colored eyes, the colors fit her to a "T"! When we decorate from the heart it will always look good, even if everyone else hates it! :) Loved your post!
ReplyDeleteWhile I am not a big fan of purple I adore orange. It's my favorite color. You have to be careful with it though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI painted my guest room a lovely dusky lavender and have received nothing but praise for it. Both male and female guests have remarked on how inviting and relaxing it is. I've accented it with white and silvery-grey.
