This frame has been on my mantel for at least 20 years, never has it been moved or changed in any way. I got it at a flea market for $20.00 , it is very old. I don't think the picture does it justice, it has a beautiful patina . When I got it, it had a picture that someone had torn out of a magazine in it. I took that out and added the mirror.
It is the things that we continue to keep and use that show our true "Signature Style", the things that we keep because we love them, not the person who gave them to us, or the things that once belonged to someone we loved, but the things that we love. I don't think you can say this about larger pieces that are costly to replace, but the things that could easily be replaced are the true clues to ones style. I have had these things in my kitchen for years and I continue to love them.
Same goes for these candle sticks, I brought 8 of them and I use all 8 in my home and never put them away when I change things up for different seasons or holidays.
I brought this print when I was 22 years old. I will soon be 48. It was the first thing that I ever bought for my home. I put it on layaway . . . It is a print by the famous Impressionists "Monet". I did not know that, when I feel in love with it. I just thought it was special. lol

I would love it, if you would do a post like this of the things that you have never tired of, the things that only have meaning to you, things that could be easily changed, if you wanted too. Link back to me , I can't wait to see your "Signature Style".
great post,i love all you things..
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Vicky. Very thought-provoking. I'll put together a post sometime this coming week and show you my faves that I can't put away.
ReplyDeleteYour things are timeless and they work, and they are unique to you.....I love to pick things like this as well in our home....I will see what I can do this week....perhaps do a linky party and pick a day, that way I will remember:)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean...there are just certain things I have to have out all the time! Come say hi :D
ReplyDeleteLove the art. I remember buying a print by a very famous artist but not knowing it at the time, like you I just thought it was beautiful. After I found out it was a well known painting I felt stupid for not knowing this but then just patted myself on the back for having such wonderful taste. MB
ReplyDeletemary beth, I felt the same way. I told myself you know the good stuff when you see it... thanks for coming by today.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicky,
ReplyDeleteOkay, I did it. Let me know if you agree with my five words. Thanks for the inspiration!
lulu, as I am unable to leave you a comment on your blog, I will do so on mine... yes, I can see your 5 words very clearly!!! I love your images and each one looks like it could be in a magazine. Thanks for playing, it was so much fun.
ReplyDeleteLove your house. Love the mirror. Adore the painting
ReplyDeleteUgh! After an hour, I think I have fixed it. I thought decorating was hard. It's easy compared to editing HTML! Fingers crossed! Thanks for your response.
ReplyDeleteAgain Wow!
ReplyDeleteI love posts that make me think.
If I can figure out how to link back to you I will. I understand why your things are near and dear to you. They are wonderful. I am off to take pictures if the suns out tomorrow. And many thanks for your post, it meant alot to me!!
What a simple test to discover our own style. I shall walk around the house in the light of day and look at my "beautiful" things that have been with me for a while.
ReplyDeleteDespite all the "styles" I have experimented with thru the years, I too have pieces and accessories that have stayed with me. I think they are the ones that have truly defined my own taste and signature style so to speak!
ReplyDeleteI am going to try and participate(tech challenged) since it is such a great idea!!!
Love this post. You described what I've been trying to put my finger on for the last year as my best friend and I have both been fixing up and decorating our new old houses. I love her style, but would never want to live with her things--I couldn't really understand why that was before.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I think I will take your suggestion and look around to see my "signature" and will share when I do. I really enjoyed seeing your signature items! Marla
ReplyDeleteVicky, thanks for your sweet comment on my blog post. I was thinking about this topic of yours over the weekend as we added a a few touches to the house for a celebration brunch on Sunday. And I noticed that our house now does not much resemble either of our two former houses (from just 1 year ago). Everything is so vastly rearranged that all of the focal points seem new. And that's odd, because there is not much in the house that is truly new (with the exception of an amazing chandelier in the DR). Many centerstage items are simply now in the spotlight after years in the shadows. The focal point items that I might have considered my signature pieces in the previous house are still present, but not nearly so prominent. They all blend together to create a pleasant, peaceful feeling.
ReplyDeletePerhaps my one signature piece, the thing that I have had for 25 years, is the antique pine china hutch. It has lived with me in 3 previous residences, but oddly, never in the dining room. It now presides in the parlor, adorned with all sorts of lovely goodies.
Thanks for showing your signature style. I love your kitchen items and your mirror especially. The candles I would also love in my home. This is very thought provoking. I will think of things I never grow tired of and link back to you!
ReplyDeleteOk, my post is up about "Signature Style." Loved writing it. You gave me reason to take notice of the things in my home that for whatever reason, I will always cherish and keep. Thanks Vicky.
ReplyDeleteGooood morning Ms. Vicky....it actually feels like Spring here. Horray...finally!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThought provoking post and I do love your 'signature style'.
For myself and to be brief; I would have to say it is pieces of Artwork that I have collected over the years. Some originals while others are repoductions. I would find it difficult to part with any one of them.
...and then there is a Cookie Jar (given to me as a gift by...I have no idea) that has always been perched on a shelf in my kitchen which has been namely used only for display. NEVER for cookies!
There are a number of other things, but as I don't have a link I shan't use your Blog to ramble on. Wishing you A BEAUTIFUL DAY!
Hugs, hugs -Brenda-
Ooops, typo correction .... repRoductions.
ReplyDelete-Brenda-
There are a few things I will probably have until the day I die...just a few...
ReplyDeleteYour pear---there's something wonderful about the shape and color of a pear---always pleasing.

How lovely and unique! This is my first time visiting. I have to tell you that the way your decorating "works", it all feels good! Thank you for the inspiration, Karen
ReplyDeleteHi Back from Cape Cod!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my new blog. I am from New Jersey and Brentwood, TN. The town next to me (in TN) was Franklin and we could get such wonderful antiques and architectural treasures. Very wonderful and unique! You have such a wonderful flair! I enjoy your work!
Thank you so much, Karen
lovely...
ReplyDeleteAll of your things shown are timeless, which I think is a key ingredient in decorating. I could see any of these items in just about any style or setting. I especially love that frame! Great idea for a post by the way!
