This is Ms. Millie, she is my daughter Leah's dog. Millie is a 5 year old ,ten pound, Russian Tsvetnya Bolonka, she came from a S.C. Rescue. She is the best little thing, housebroke, crate trained, purse trained . . . I wanted to do this post to remind everyone that the dogs needing homes through rescue programs are great dogs . Leah got her on Sat. and she has been perfect. We found her on Pet Finders. These dogs are not free! But when you consider that all the puppy work has already been done, all medical has been taken care of, it is a great deal !
My daughter also found her puppy on PetFinder. I know they do all the medical stuff and are a wonderful agency, but if you're not located in an area that has an issue with heartworm, please be sure to have her tested at least once a year, especially new puppies. My daughter lives in New England where heartworm is not prevalent, and when her dog became ill, the vet was very surprised when she tested positive for heartworm. She contracted heartworms as a puupy before she went to live "up north". Her dog has just been given a clean bill of health. I don't want to scare any one, this was just FYI.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann Marie, I am happy to report that Millie is not a puppy , she is 5 years old and on heart worm prevention. But good tip for any others that are adopting. Glad your dog is now healthy.
ReplyDeleteWe too "rescued" a dog earlier this year and he is just gorgeous. Our surrogate child of 11 years had to be put down in December with heart problems and cancer of the spleen. Our little girl dog was so miserable without her mate. So we purchased a rescue dog and he has fitted in just beautifully. House trained, quiet and very grateful that he has a loving family to care for him. Our Animal Cruelty put down 700 dogs in one week last month so giving one of these little fellas a second chance is very rewarding.
ReplyDeleteWhat a doll! I love it! So cute.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. Both of my dogs are rescues and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Millie is adorable. Yay for saving her !
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie! Purse trained?! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new reader, and I love dogs!
ReplyDeleteWe got one of our dogs from the shelter and he is living in Malibu on the beach right now!

We have 2 rescue dogs, and they are wonderful. This one is so cute.Kathy
ReplyDeleteI completely agree about rescue pets. Our dog and cat are both from our local shelter - as is this troublesome little kitty I'm catsitting for my daughter who is trying to lounge on my lap while I type this. He's cute, but what a pest! I think maybe he just misses his mom. She'll be back tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting about dog adoption rescue! There are so many wonderful, precious animals in need of homes & it helps to get the word out there about them. I have been checking myself on Petfinder.com for another dog needing a home. Congratulations on
ReplyDeleteMs. Millie!

So cute!! I've never heard of that kind of breed before!?!
ReplyDeleteThank you for lending a voice to all the sweet hearts that can't speak for themselves. They all deserve a safe loving home! Millie is a lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteAmen Sista! This post is right through my heart! Rescue programs are so important to these lil guys and I'm so glad you gave them a voice. They are filled with the most delightful animals, all just longing for a family. We're seeking a companion for Zeek through Golden Retriever Rescue right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for using your page to speak for these babies! I was a fan before, but now it's just an honor to visit your page! Your daughter is did a wonderful responsible thing by adopting from a shelter! She is one lucky girl, she has Ms. Millie, and you as her mom!
Oh my, Millie is adorable. What a doll! I too believe in adopting from a shelter. My shelter though usually has only large dogs. Millie would be an exception and your daughter is lucky to get her. Millie is lucky to get your daughter!
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious pooch! I also have rescues. The latest is a Rat terrier named Boo Boo.He was 4 when we got him. Had him for 2yrs. I love to hear that there are so many people who rescue animals.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work.
