Signature Style

I've been obsessed with interior design for years and just as with fashion, I now know what looks good on me . . . and what looks good in my house. I know that this chest would work beautifully, I wish it were mine.

I still enjoy looking at all the different styles, from vintage modern to country cottage, but I don't easily get side tracked. I am past the trends! At the same time, I don't encourage anyone to become frozen in time either. Edit. Add. Refresh. A room is never "done". Our homes are our own individual canvases, you will in time, learn, that you don't have to try everything that is new. I find this image very interesting, but it does not fit me.

The owner of this room knows their "Signature Style". A person who knows their own style will stay true to what they love, caring less what the rest are doing. They know what feels good and what is comfortable to them. The personal journey of searching has ended , and it feels GREAT!

I love this style so much and would love to think that it would fit into my humble adobe . . . but in truth, it is most likely a bit too rough. Do you know what your Signature Style is? How would you describe it? Could you define it in 5 words? If so, CELEBRATE ! If not, don't give up, keep searching, it will come. My style in 5 words . . . Old world, warm, unpretentious, uncluttered and patina. What are your 5 words?

  8. Vicki, great post I would describe my style as, Traditional with a twist, Understated Elegance, Fresh, Airy,Spring-like and hopefully Inviting. This is at least what I hope I achieve in my home.I wrote a post in Jan that I have not posted yet on my likes and disl-likes that would probably explain this better. I have it slotted for next week. After you read it I bet you can tell me exactly what I am, Kathysue

  10. American Farmhouse meets French Country in Nantucket.
I know that's seven words, but it's the way I've been describing "my style" for a few years now. A mishmash of my favorite cottage elements from each of those types.
    Great post.

  11. Comfortable, inviting, well-worn, mish-mash and cluttered. Not necessarily what I would wish for but what has become over the years with impulse buys, family pieces and inherited (with house) bits we can't afford to replace!!!!

  15. Hi Vicky,
Love this! Well, because I shop so much at thrift stores, I buy a lot of good old classic, well made furniture. And then the slipcovers are practical. So I guess my style leans towards, casual, classic lines, comfortable, fresh. I'll also add it's pretty fun too.

  19. fresh, aged, sentimental, romantic, breezy

I am striving to accomplish 2 goals in my home:
    1) incorporate items we possess into our daily surroundings
    2) adhere to an overarching theme that celebrates natural light and our outdoor views

The process is fun and I'm learning so much along the way through your blog and your readers. Thanks Vicky!
