The huge stove hood in this kitchen gives it the "Something to Talk About". It makes the whole space. I bet everyone that comes in walks right over to it and starts to ask questions. These are the elements that make for great design.

"My" Top Ten Design Elements #9
Texture, primitive, "The Something to Talk About" has to included in my list of "Elements " for great design. Without these your room can easily become boring . You can have a nice room without them, but for a great room, try to include one of the three. It will make all the difference.

Great photos. Love all of these rooms. Texture and the unexpected really makes a huge impact. I need to look around and see what is in my rooms. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteGood thoughts. I think we use texture intuitively, sometimes, but this will go in my into my brain to try to be more cognitive about it. Thanks for the challenge!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on texture. I like the unexpected texture from patina and rustic elements, especially juxtaposed with elegant and refined elements.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicky,
ReplyDeleteThose are all great rooms. I especially love the one with the huge french doors hiding the TV and the walls with the lovely boards and coffee table. Sometimes I'm not sure how to incorporate all of these elements, hopefully I get it right sometimes, though.
Hugs, Cindy
Great rooms, each one offering us something special to look at. Oh how I would love to have some of these 'old' walls.(-:
ReplyDeleteVicky you always find the best ideas. And the best info! Now I need to go look at my rooms again.

ReplyDeleteI love all the rooms. Great texture!
ReplyDeleteThat little yellow buffet in the entrance sitting next to that chippy plaster wall---speaks volumes to me!
ReplyDeleteWithout scrolling up-- I think the only other photo that caused me to remember it ...was the great expanse of a room that you said no one would forgot. Love the big chunky beams and wood in that space.
But my mind is drawn to the little yellow buffet...
great finds. Thanks for putting these together.
