Smile Style

Create a home that makes you smile. Your home is not a "Look", it's a feeling in your soul . . . Keep it personal. The things you love deserve to have a place of honor, used and seen. Every home tells a story about the people that live there.

I love to honor the past . This is a photo of my grandparents, her watch and ring. (my grandpa made the ring)

Look around your own castle and be reminded that within your walls lies a scrape book, a collection of memories, the story of who you are and what you love. Are you a good storyteller?

  1. Love the way you put all this stuff together. These photos prove the old addage that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Thanks for the post. Bob

  3. What a loving tribute you put together of your grandparents. You are so right, personal effects are such a large part of making a house a home. What you have done is lovely.

  6. I love to surround myself with family pictures. But if you are selling a house they always tell you to take them down! My family is very important to me and I like to tell the story of them. Thanks for making me feel better!

  7. Anytime someone uses the word "soul" when talking about decorating, I'm on board! Have seen so many gorgeous houses lately on blogs, but somehow, I am "underwhelmed"... I've been asking myself, "What's your problem?" "They are beautiful"... I think you hit the nail on the head today. For me, no matter how pretty and well orchestrated they are, if they are not soulful, then they are still missing something very important. Great post!

  8. I was never really a good story teller in decorating, less is much better for me. But thinking it thoroughly after reading this, I must convert or else I will loose my soul and my everyday smile. :-) Nice idea, thanks for the share.

  10. Your home is so unique and lovely. It makes me wish I could meet you in real life.
I think my home is telling a story about us, I hope so anyways! When people come to visit they always look around and comment on how nice it is, but I don't want it to look like MMS, or PB, or anyone else that has a popular style, I want it to tell a story about us.
    Hugs, Cindy

  14. I love a home filled with memories. Most of my "stuff" conjures memories of a loved one, a trip -- or something. Everyone needs a conversation starter in their home, too. And these things fill the bill.

  16. So true..I look around the rooms in my house any almost every piece has a story/memory/history. I love visiting homes that feel evolved and you wonder what you may find around the corner. I feel sad when I enter a home that looks like it was put together from TJ Maxx and PB...it is like there is no sou.
