Starting a Inspiration File

I found this beautiful photo by John Minshaw a few months back and saved it for my guest room inspiration file. You can find things that inspire you everywhere. Start your own collection and refer back to the things that you love, whenever you start to feel lost.

This too was in my file. My guest room is almost done, and I can't wait to show it to you ! I would have been done sooner, but one has to wait for others to get inspired as well . . .

Can you see the direction I was going in ? Can you guess the style and the colors I used?

Take a look around and really notice what it is that makes your heart sing. We are all designers you know . . .

What are these photos telling you about my guest room? I want to hear your best guess. I can't wait to see who nails it !

  1. Hmmm, shabby chic? Romantic whites? Cottagey? Perhaps a mixture of all three? I love the picture of the books with those bookmarks.

  2. White with a lovely aged patina and fresh and fragrant as a garden bouquet. Can't wait to see! -Diane

  3. I see soft greens and white with a mixture of textures in soft patinas. some pieces will be aged and some refined there will be an element of elegance with a comfortable bend. Can't wait to see, love your inspiration pictures.

  4. I'd wager a little Swedish cream in my coffee ...very Euro and sleek with vintage accents ... old books, floor covering and maybe a kickin' chandelier nestled right above the bed chambre ...

  5. * Honestly girlfriend, I'm N*O*T "copping out" here, but I say "all of the above"... annnd, WITH the addition of one small-medium vase of verrrry prettty soft pink flowers, fresh from your magnificent property!

...annnnd, you KNOW I'm not joking when I say "Lord grant me patience, but HURRY!"~~~ (You realize I'm "one of those" who ALWAYS want everything "yesterday"!)... So hurry & share!!! (Prettttty plz?)~~~

Annnnd, finally, speaking of "pretty", one thing I D*O feel "kind of confident" about (or that I simply "suspect"~ I COULD, of course, be wrong), but I think we're going to see a few lil', small touches of the "younger, girly" (NOT frou-frou, tho! I'm talking GOOD & TASTEFUL for sure~~~ like "you"!)side of your youth, QUIETLY tucked in here n' there n' there & in a very subtle way.

There won't be any "shouting" in THIS space (except for glee now that you've got it where you "want" it)... Nope, it's going to be charming & lovely, warm n' welcoming... and too WONDERFUL, just like you!!!

SEE YOU (and "IT" soooon, ok?!?!)~~~
    Many big HAPPY SUNDAY hugs,

  7. Hi there!
I'm gonna guess that the room will be full of light, with the use of off white colors in the furniture that has a distressed look. Some green highlights here and there. There will be lots of books to read, so I'm guessing you'll have a book shelf in the room.

Kindof shabby chic with a french twist.
    Hello...am I even a tad bit close???

Can't wait to see the real mc coy.
    God bless,

  8. Looks kind of "shabby european elegance" to me. Old worn pieces that have class and history. A comfortable and handed-down sense that wraps around and hugs you with warmth and quality.
    Hmmmm...sounds like 'ad copy"......LOL

  11. My guess is that you used the stack of journals as your color palette. Then you went for an uncomplicated country french look using a few aged, romantic pieces. Something you would hope to find in a beautiful country retreat. How did I do?

  15. Country French with romantic white/cream linens, perfectly aged furniture (either natural with a trace of white paint or a grayed out Gustavian finish), and a touch of green to liven things up. Add a few perfectly shabby accessories(pink roses, vintage peely books, a tiny taste of bling.
    Love your inspirational photos.

  20. Everything I'm loving right now: Linen fabrics, white and apple green color palate. I'm guessing a crusty timeworn patina on either the headboard or dresser, possibly distressed green. (hint: green table in your previous post that makes you go ahhhh) And flowers on the nightstand. Can't wait to see it! --Delores

  22. My dear, Vicky, what can be said that hasn't been already? A creation of a secluded sanctuary with gracious elegance and reflections of European influences. I'm looking forward to the reveal of this destination that offeres respite to the weary that will certainly reflect cultured and genteel living.

  23. All of the above...and you can be sure there will be the color 'green'. Also, as for Renae's comment, I might just have to arm-wrestle her as I wannA be the first guest. :)

Waiting anxiously for the unveiling, as I know it will be scrumptous. Hugs -Brenda-

  25. * Um, yeah, wellll, Vicky-girl... The TRUTH is,

... It's 5:00 here... I'm THINKING of sitting at the dinner table & pounding my fork & knife, shouting "We wanna see it! We wanna see it!"... Then I figured, nahhhh, "LADIES" don't do things like that!!!!.........

Sooooo, I am NOW sitting here at my desk, in a ballgown, with perfect posture, sitting up straight & looking straight forward and gennnntly saying "May I please be allowed the honour of viewing your recently redecorated guest room, Miss Vicky?".... (Now does THAT fly a little better???!!! Ha ha!)~~~

    Can't wait!!!
    Love, Linda *
