I want to remind everyone that this is "MY' personal list . . . I do not want to imply that this should be
every one's taste and desire for their own space. For me , window treatments should always be SIMPLE . So # 7 on my list is " Simple Window Treatments".
That does not mean simple panels only ! I love these wooden shutters. I love the color ,the texture, that they make a huge impact on the space and I love that they are simple! This space is perfect in
every way, for my personal taste.
Sometimes, wooden blinds are the way to go. This is a
child's room, the blinds do not fight with the bed , they let the bed be the focal. They are up and out of the way , perfect for a active child at play.
Love the simple window treatments here, not taking away from the great window. Just a little something, but perfectly in the background.
But I also like a little personality. This is simply Perfect . So tell me , what do you like on your windows?
I tooootally agree :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love your blog :) Your little intro/disclaimer made me giggle.
Funny how back in the '80's when everything was layered - even then I liked simple blinds or a beautiful panel. Now I get to be "in"!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThese are all so pretty...love the first panels and the shutters. In the past I have done more elaborate window treatments but I am trying to simplify. In my new media/library project I am planning simple panels...but I am going to have them 'puddle'...so I guess it is a compromise.(-:
Oh, this is a hot button in my house! My husband doesn't like ANY window treatments. Zero. So, we keep very few windows shuttered.
ReplyDeleteThe last picture is my favorite. If I were to redo my living room, ( and I want to so badly!) this would work, light, simple, still with a beachy feeling.
Like you, I prefer simple treatments or (because I have spectacular views of tall pines out my living room and dining room windows)nothing at all.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say I'm witn you on the unfussy window treatment. (Maybe it's my meager budget reminding me that unfussy falls within the range of affordable) My current window treatments are nothing to get excited about. Still mulling it over. I put up a hand knotted double swag in cotton muslin over the palladium windows in the parlor and am still thinking about what to install in the windows below. I'm leaning toward a bamboo roller shade. Something that won't detract from the room. It's my favorite in the house. Honestly, curtain selections just stress me out. !!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I love simple window treatments. I want my furniture and decorative objects, not my curtains, to be the focal point in my rooms. Swags, jabots, pelmets, fringe, etc. just don't do it for me.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, it's a good thing you put that disclaimer at the top. Otherwise, there would be some vitriolic Anonymous telling you how wrong you are in the nastiest words possible!
Couldn't agree more!!
ReplyDeleteI keep mine fairly simple too. However, the fancy ones are soooo much more fun to make ! ;)
ReplyDeleteI have simple window treatments...or none at all. My kitchen french doors are unadorned, they are painted black. Every room has wide wooden blinds and sometimes simple panels. The master bedroom has a corona with lace panels so I put plantation shutters in each of four tall thin windows and put simple lace (puddled) on the sitting room windows. I really love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a simple window kind of girl too, now i'm in the midst of redoing my living room and now i need something on my windows but i'm torn between shutters and bamboo blind for texture.

I love simple off-white floor length panels, they suit my little house very well, I think, and they offer privacy as well. You have great taste, I enjoy your little decorating lessons, I'm glad you are back doing it again.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs, Cindy
I agree, I like simple best. I personally think heavy drapes detract from a room and weigh it down. We personally have wood blinds throughout (plantation shutters are on the "wish" list), and no drapes/curtains. This is due to my personal allergies along with my daughters.
ReplyDeleteI Love window treatments and will NEVER be a fan of not having window treatments in a room. But I love detail. This does NOT mean layers and layers of gaudy trims, but tasteful simple details like a tiny ruffle across the top of simple linen panels. I think it also depends on what else is in the room. Sometimes windows need to take the backseat and sometimes they need to be a focal point! So I guess I agree with you...to a certain extent! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI agree Ms. Vicky as it so happens that my favourite type of window covering has to be Roman Shades. (Relaxed or accordian style.) I love the simplicity of them plus I find them extremely functional either for our climate or controlling privacy issues, not to mention they are cost efficient as it takes less fabric to custom make them. -Brenda-
ReplyDeleteI love window treatments, I mean that I really have a passion for them. I've done fussy and am moving toward more simple. I think it's a bit of a reflection of the way we are living today. That's a good thing, I think.
ReplyDeleteI threw out all the overly fussy window treatments 4 years ago. Haven't regretted it once since I've been using roman blinds in a few rooms now.
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else I agree with the simple window treatments. I want everyone to focus on my living space not just the windows. The window treatments should add something to the space not overwhelm it. I absolutely love shutters, and I hope one day when I own my home I can do something like what is pictured above. Again thanks for the inspiration, I can store ideas for later use :D
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the list of simple. I try to address privacy issues, but have never had custom draperies made. Sometimes I do stationary fabric panels, but mostly retro fit antique shutters somewhat like the picture. I recently did a large, ugly, plate glass window with three, 9 ft tall, blue/gray antique shutters that we hung from a sliding door rail hardware. They go all the way, ceiling to floor. The center one is stationary, but the two side ones slide open and shut. Then I layered matchstick blinds underneath. This window treatment ended up being more architectural, which I personally like. Great post!
ReplyDeleteMy wife added some beautiful curtains during her remodeling (Minnesota-based) of our house. It gives a distinct atmosphere of calmness, as she has chosen warm colors. The house is not too dark or too bright. I feel so relaxed every time I go home.
ReplyDeletehttp://renegadefashion-renegadefashion.blogspot.com/ i love your blog! ive just started out and came across yours, take a look at mine if you wouldnt mind :) i'll be following you! beautiful inspiring designs!
ReplyDeleteI like simple, too. We so casual...anything else wouldn't really suit our personalities. -s
ReplyDeleteHigh Five Girl! You hit the nail on the head with simplicity! I am not a southern decorator at all with the heavy ornate window treatments. Dust collectors!

Please forgive me when I don't get back to each and everyone of you. I find that I don't have as much time for blogging now that I take care of Tate for at least 20 hours a week. I do love getting comments, so thank you for taking the time to visit.
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki, I am with you I love simple on the windows and I even go one step further and I don't put anything on my windows. People always wonder why and it is because I love light and views!!!Merry Christmas Miss Vicki,Kathysue
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog the other day via somehow. lol Am loving it as I go back looking at your older posts.. I can't stop. You are consuming my entire day. This subject is perfect for me right now as I am going to be in need of new window treatment in my living room as we are putting in a woodstove that happens to be near the main window. Hubby is afraid the curtains we have up now will be problems so I am having to come up with an idea... no clue what to do! Love the shutter look but don't know if it's "me" or not. I am all for simple too.
ReplyDeleteI know that simplicity is timeless, but I want to veer away for now from blinds and curtains. I love the idea of using interior shutters, especially the old-looking ones, to create a rustic look for my windows. They will not only do their job of moderating light and temperature, they will also make my window treatment fab.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Katie
