  4. White walls dance because they are the star attraction having minimal "other" colors competing with them.

  5. When the music stops and all that is left is the breeze blowing softly through the curtain-less window...and the smell of gardenias kissing the air!
THAT IS WHEN THE WHITE WALLS DANCE.

  6. White walls dance when they reflect light and freshness. They sing when they have a pop of color to set them off. P.S. Unless there is a sweet puppy to dress the foot of the bed, I would go with an upholstered bench. Have a good weekend.

  7. I can certainly tell you when they dance, but I am not always certain what exactly is making them dance. I would probably have to agree with Bella Cassa's comment.
I remember when all of the houses where nobody knew anything about decor thought walls had to be white and then they added anything and everything to the mix, it looked hideous and I was certain I would never again like white walls. Well, I have changed my mind after seeing white done right and these images are all good examples of white done right. Please do a post on what makes them dance.
    Thanks so much.

  8. There are probably a lot of "tunes", but the song I think of most to make white walls dance is: TEXTURE. I am doing an 1889 Queen Anne right now. For the front parlor and dining room I am doing white. BUT, we have stripped the walls back to the original 12" wide, long leaf pine ship lap, laid diagonally. The rough side is out, we have caulked all seams, and painted everything white. It contrasts so well with the gingerbread millwork, even though they are both white. Not the predictable colored walls contrasting with "wedding cake" trim, but white on white. I think texture is what makes it dance...

I can not express how much I have enjoyed these comments! Of course this is IMHO ... but I think they work only in rooms with a lot of natural bright light. I think they dance the most when the space also includes lots of texture. Most of the time I prefer everything else in the room to be light as well. Keep the comments coming,it's so much fun to get everyone own ideals. The comments make my blog, so thank you. Don't ever forget that I blog for comments. smiles

  13. Similar to an Artist's blank canvas, white walls provide the perfect backdrop for the placement or arrangement of visual elements. Once they are applied, 'a composition' is then created which makes the canvas dance.

  21. I think it is the light coming into the room. Colour Me Happy did a great post with lots of good pics on this subject and the key was light. Basically, she said and showed that white will never come alive in a dark room.
