The Power of Color

Color has the power to rev up a decorating scheme or calm it down . The choice depends on the room and the hues that you crave.
Color is very personal . . . most of you know that I have a strong dislike for the color "Blue," but I read over and over that it is a calming color. Trust me, it does not calm me, and my poor daughters have been programed to hate it too . . .

Are you fearless when it comes to color, or do you prefer to live in the land of "Beige" ? I guess if the "land of beige" comes in the form of a "Sara Scaglione" room, we could all live quite well . . .

  1. I'm dwelling the the land of beige ... for just a few months now.
I'm as snug as a bug in a beige, brown, ivory rug!

oh and BTW, I edited my closet, too. Again, snug as that creamy white, brown, gray bug ... make shopping easy peesy.

peek in at my savvy little weekend makeover.

  3. I think beige has its place in some rooms. I have color in certain rooms in my house, but in rooms where I want to relax and calm my mind I like a softer palette.

  4. I have to have color. In generous doses. I tried many years ago to quiet things down but I just couldn't do it! I really like the look of a tonal space like the Sara Scaglione room you show... as long as it's in someone else's house!

  5. I love color...but lately have been wanting beige/whites. it works out great for me to have a beige base bc I like to change things up throughout the year..so I like having a beige canvas to work on top of lol

  6. I guess I am a little timid because of the three rooms I see myself in the beige one - but could I take all my china?
    Take care,

  7. I like color as well as the taupe shades!
    Like it all.

I hope to have a taupe and white colored family room in the near future, a garnet and white diningroom, haven't decided on the master bedroom (may do it in a victorian turquoise), soft pink and white powder room, undecided on the formal parlor.

    See what I mean!
    Take care,

  9. I love color but I love beige too but I would probably pair it with some bolder color. I like blue but in a robin blue, aqua or turquoise shade..Christine

  10. Color is such a wonderful thing, I love having light yellow walls and using pink and white with it in the summer, red, orange and green in the autumn, and red and gold in the winter. I may try a little bit of blue with lots of white in the spring. I love change more than most, perhaps. I could live in that "Sara Scaglione" room, for a while at least. I'm with you on Blue! Hugs, cindy S.

  11. People who like 'beige' are not necessarily afraid of color (as is often the accusation).

Some people just prefer the calm and restfulness of the more neutral palette.

  13. I love the beige and natural colours a lot! But sometimes I love to bring in a touch of a colour as orange or green,... It depends on the function of the room! And I have to say that I painted the colours of our bedroom in a shade of orange!!! Yes!!! Because I want to start the day very shiny and optimistic! And it helps!

  15. I love beige, tan, off white, and I have a lot of camel in my house. Every time I try to step out of my box and paint a more vibrant color it really gets under my skin and I have to paint it again in another shade of tan.

  16. I love color, but I tire quickly of my surroundings, so I try to keep the walls and furniture somewhat neutral and then I can add color in accessories, art, etc. I'm visually stimulated by the seasons. So now, I'm into the "fall" colors, but having furniture that is "colored" like the purple dresser would only last a short time with me. Pillows are cheaper than furniture.

  18. My friend had her bedroom in atique white . Heck, she had all the rooms antique white. She said that was the only color she had ever used. To me the walls just look dirty. There was just not enough color to give it a feel. She asked me to help. Now ,the bedroom and hall are a light green apple. She said it makes her think of Spring even if there is snow out side. The Sun room has one wall in toast. The dining room is a soft gold glase. The windows are small in the house, so if you have no color in the room it looks cold. The next room she wants help with will be the living room. The lady is 75.

  19. Hi Vicky, Happy Saturday! You know I'm all about color but my office and bedroom are very neutral. I guess that must mean that I need neutrality for work and sleep. Color is a huge source of stimulation. That's one reason I use it so deliberately and generously in rooms.
Now, in answer to your question of "where I've been?" I've been busy falling in love! How's that for a reason?
