These worn painted pieces just make a room feel like you can relax and put your feet up . . . and if it is the coffee table, you can! You don't have to be so careful, they just make living easy.
I also think your accessories look better on a painted background. They can add the punch of color that may be lacking as well.
I know that you have all heard that every room needs a touch of black . . . that just may be true!
In my own castle, I have at least one painted piece in every room , except my Living Room, however, my dining room and foyer are almost part of that room , only a wooden rail separates the spaces, and I have painted pieces in both the foyer and the dining room. So tell me, how do you feel about "Painted Pieces"?
Perfect pairings!
ReplyDeleteI think you're totally on target. I aspire to add interest to some rather ordinary pieces of furniture with a touch of paint, but frankly, I'm a bit nervous. Keep putting it off! If only I was confident that they would turn out as lovely as those you have pictured...sigh.
ReplyDeleteThese are all lovely.
ReplyDeleteAll of these are lovely. I Like this idea and what a great way to re-purpose.(-: Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love the mix of paint and wood, it keeps it real and honest. I think it makes a house feel like a home.
ReplyDeleteVicky, I agree wholeheartedly. I am always drawn to old paint. Maybe it's just my personal preference speaking here, but a room that is done only in all new finishes and fabrics just seems to lack a soul. I know that we don't all think (and feel) alike, so forgive me if I am too opinionated, but the rooms that seem so attractive in magazines and with top name designers have contrasts of texture and finishes.
ReplyDeleteA painted piece adds a lot of intrigue and wondering about its history, its stories and its experiences.
Love Them!!! Love the desk in the last photo! Oh how I look forward to each of these posts. Thanks Vicky, I'm having so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree wholeheartedly. I love painted pieces, so why don't I have a painted piece in my dining room or living room? I know why, I'm afraid I will paint it and then wish I hadn't. I get so frustrated with myself sometimes. I love the rooms that you have showcased today, they are all fabulous!

Thanks, again, for the lovely inspiration! I agree! The mix of painted and stained is what works. I LOVE painted wood but a room full of ALL painted pieces could be just as flat as a room full of only stained pieces.
ReplyDeleteI love painted finishes on furniture and I totally agree, it looks so fresh and fun added to a room of wooden pieces. Love your examples, Kathysue
ReplyDelete* Am in TOTAL AGREEMENT with you n' the others, Vicky!...
ReplyDelete...Annnnd, I'm w/ "POINDEXTR" (above) about actually DOING IT... I WANT to, soooo badly, & my common sense tells me that if I "screw it up", maybe that's "a good START!", but I STILLLL have yet to do it... annnd, I don't want "Picasso" (you know him... our every-trusted painter/faux painter) to do it, cuz I want it to be a project ~ MY PROJECT ~ that "I "can be PROUD to say "I did it MYSELF"!!!....
Ohhhh, but back to actually "STARTING"... now THAT'S the problem! (Maybe I should take up drinking n' "loosen up", & then MAYYYYBE THAT will do the trick!?!?!?! Grins...)...

I totally agree! I too have at least one painted piece in each room, some old, some made to look old. I also agree that having at least one darker piece (whether it be black, dark brown or a deep stain wood)helps to anchor a room.
ReplyDeleteI love these pieces. I have several. Some I did ,and some I bought. Great post. Kathy
ReplyDeleteThe wallpaper is stunning in the first photo, and the white and gray comination of colors and textures is amazing in the last photo. Have a wonderful day ~ xox Alexandra
ReplyDeletewell ... um ... er ... I just tried climbing thru my screen!!!
ReplyDeleteAND if anyone needs something painting ... ring me up
Love the look of painted pieces with wood.
ReplyDeleteI might be biased as I have been doing paint finishes for 15 years...and I am still not tired of the look. As you can imagine, I have a lot of painted things at Blue Creek Home.
Lovin' your top ten posts.
Rhonda

ReplyDeleteYou are brilliant Vicky!Outstanding Elements of designs!Painted pieces are stunning...Such an inspiring ideas and the site as well. Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, I love a room with mixed pieces.
ReplyDeleteWe have a dealer at the store who transforms thrift store pieces into treasures with paint. It's amazing what paint can do. I used to be addicted to painting things. Something would come over me and before I knew it, I would be painting something. I have something painted in just about every room, too. Love it to look distressed. My new favorite technique is to rub brown wax over the paint. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you as well Ms. Vicky. Even if its just a small accessory; 'painted' can add much needed charm and character to what may otherwise may be a boreing piece. -Brenda-
ReplyDeleteLove your profile picture Brenda!
