"Become a Master of Editing"

When a space has very few things in it, everything becomes important, and noticeable.

When you dare to be spare, each piece will have a impact . . .

The space becomes peaceful and quiet.

Restful to the eyes and the soul.

Because sometimes, it not what's in a room, but what is not . . .

  1. The first photo is Me. I was called a minimalist recently. A copy is going in my Signature Style file. And, I agree with your thoughts. I have some pretty tables in my booth, but no one is going to see them with all the little things on them screaming for attention.

  2. I feel the same impact when you have some unframed paintings in your rooms. Without the frame...the painting pops.

  4. Good point, I like the simplicity of your photos. I need to try that in my home too. sandi

  8. Shoot! I just love too much stuff, I guess! These are lovely photos but in my tiny eyes, look a little on the nekked side! :) Just can't help it - I love my stuff and lots of it! ;)

  9. My question is ,did a designer do the last room. Not everyone loves sparse. I like things around me, not to have to think of what the meaning of empty is. Like a large painting of blue with one dot of yellow in the center. I just like to enjoy things no to rack my brain for the meaning behind the decision to put that one dot on that canvas.

  10. These days, I want to edit, edit, edit. But it goes against my nature to collect and display. All your images are soothing and serene, except of course the last one. It makes my eyes hurt!

  11. *** GREAT POSTING n' PICS, Vicky-girl... I was happily feeling soooo calm n' relaxed, and then WHAMO! That LAST pic sure "woke me up" (and NOT in a "nice" way!)!!! EEKS~ Frightening!!!

And I TOTALLY agree w/ you, & the older I get, the less I want around our home, cluttering up my already-cluttered mind, ANYWAY~~~~ I NEEEED the serenity of "less".

If one has LOTS of LOVES, tho, IMHO they should be selectively edited & put away until you want a complete change... then just switch things out occassionally for a nice, welcomed or needed "change of scene"~~~

    Sooooo glad yer "back"!!!

  14. This was a great post. I especially got a kick out of some of the comments. To funny!

As for minimalist approach, one day I am and the next day I'm not. I pair multiple things up and a few months later what looked pretty is cluttered. At that point we start with minimal decor again. It's a love/hate relationship minimalism and I have. hee, hee! At least in regards to my own home. Others homes and your photos are quite lovely and I love them.

    Blessings to you,
    Shanna

  16. Yes, imagine how lovely that last room would be without that hideous pink tiger drape on the bench? I would have been lovely. Totally agree. I, too, am happy to see you back, cookie.

  19. Vicki~I am not a minimalist by heart! It is hard to be when you have a whole family living in one place but now that kids are gone and we moved I have been working on the less is more theory. And I have to say you are exactly right. The few things I have out are eye catching and it's fun to put things away and bring out new ones ever so often! Love this post!

  20. Less is More vs More is More! Easy to say (And see the benefits of) but SO hard to do! Great pictures!

  21. That last picture....lol, no thanks. I'll never understand why people will love have so much clutter around thus making it more to clean and dust. A selected few items are all that's needed. Otherwise it looks like an overdose of junk.

  24. Would you believe Ms. Vicky I am STILL editing.....my Xmas decorations.... which has been a hit 'n miss exercise for the past five months. In self defense, I have been purchasing them for some thirty-eight years and the warm weather is here. It's time for Brenda to get out and play in the sunshine. Oh I shud also mention they are in the basement. :)

Back to the subject at hand, yes entirely agree with you and Linda and Naz. (Hello girls!) Though the last room has some wonderful design accents/elements; I feel there is far too much going on in the one room to fully appreciate the pieces as individuals.
