One of my little nieces is getting married this spring and is starting to put together things for her first home. She loves the Cottage Style and I can't wait to help her put her treasures together. There is nothing anymore fun for me . . .
This style offers more decorating options than any other style. No wonder it has been called an American favorite.
It is certainly one of my favorite styles. With few rules of right or wrong. Easy living for families with children and pets. Mixing and matching is always
accepted with ease.
I love the trend to paint everything white . . . could not be any easier than that. How do you like the Cottage Style?
It's so pretty ! My grandmother had that "pinky" picture in the last photo.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! I plan to do my new home in "cottage style"...I like to call it "Vintage/Country/Ecelectic/Chic"! haha!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a fun style to work with. Have a great time with her planning and painting!

It's all so romantic for newlyweds. I love it that as their tastes blend and evolve they can accent with different colors. White is an excellent place to start.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
That sounds like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone can do it, it's YOU!

I love it! The possibilities are endless and you can accomplish a terrific look without spending oodles of $$$. Perfect for couples starting out, or for just about anyone for that matter.
ReplyDeletecottage says home -- to me.
ReplyDeleteshe's lucky to have your help and inspiration!

I love cottage style! That would be so much fun -helping your niece decorate her first home.

Cottage white is so delightful!
ReplyDeletewarmest congratulations to your niece! I'm sure it will be the most fun ever helping her create her new home.
ReplyDeleteIt is always so warm and inviting!
ReplyDeleteLove it! My husband tends to like a fussier life=style, leather club chairs, dark woods. If I lived alone-not that I really want to-this would be my choice.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I love the Cottage Style. We have not seen a piece of furniture that we did not say, "Wouldn't that look nice painted a warm white" lol. Cottage Style is just so friendly and welcoming. We have friends whose homes are decorated in all the dark heavy woods and colors and when they come to our house they all say WOW I love how light and airy your house is , all it takes is a nice white paint and viola! all pretty!
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and yours

Yep love it! That kitchen and the last pic (living room) are killer! Vanna
ReplyDeleteI love the Cottage Look. Your niece is fortunate to have you for her Auntie. Family is so wonderful. sandi
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you! I especially love the last picture. I've always been a color girl but here lately I'm really leaning towards the neutrals. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteThis is so much more inviting . Love all the photos. I could live in any one of them. I found a sofa table at the thrift store yesterday for $29.99 and am loving it. I also found a Kate Spade bag for $7.00 Yahooooo Kathy
ReplyDeleteIt is just in paperback and on kendile
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Cottage Style, it is my style, the one style that I have always loved, but not until the last three years really been able to use. It fits my house perfectly. I enjoy the fact that it has few rules and so many colors fit with it. I love the images that you have here, they are quintessential "Cottage"!

I am starting on a "Cottage Style" project, so your post is timely for me. It is a whole house, and the architecture is cottage from the 1930's. My challenge is how to keep it from getting too sweet. I like painted furniture and a lot of the elements, but I just can't stand to play into the overly "sugariness"! Any advice?
ReplyDelete... now you've gone and done it ... got my little old midwestern heart all
ReplyDeletetwitterpated!
girl, you READ me like a book.
treats for you on my sidebar!
Terry as in all styles of design the same elements apply. Keep it simple, don't clutter and fill space just to do so. Watch your scale and I do think less color makes things less sugary...lol You need a blog. I want to see some of your projects, I know they are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice. I really appreciate it! I am going to really think about what you have said. If you are interested in seeing some of my work, you can look at my website at: www.saylesranch.com, and my Facebook Fan Page at: Sayles Ranch Guesthouses. Also, Joni Webb at Cote de Texas posted about my "Cotton Eye Joe" last July here: http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/2010/07/abilene-remodel.html
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love your blog!
OMG Terry !!!! I remember that post by Joni. DON'T BE ASKING ME FOR ADVICE. I feel foolish now. lol I must have looked at your rooms 40 times on that post, love them. I did not put that together. I knew you knew what you were doing from your comments, but I had no ideal... will you marry me? (Sorry, I got excited, and just forgot I am aready married for more than 30 years) lol
ReplyDeleteVicky: You are very kind. I kind of have a good time and do my thing. None of us have all the answers, and I certainly don't. I just struggle all the time to keep things fresh and new. You give good, thought provoking concepts to think about on your blog, and we all benefit from them. I've been married for over 30 years to the love of my life, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and tons of inspiration for your new project!
