For those who don't choose to live in the land of neutrals ... a little bird told me "Yellow" was the "in" color of 2009.
But color lovers beware ... you think you selected a soft shade of butter and after it is on the walls it starts to scream, "I am Yellow !! "
My advice to clients is to very carefully pick your yellows, think twice, and when you are sure ... go one shade lighter. Or just use it as a accent in the space.
But really, who can resist this soft and buttery, sunny and bold, or golden and radiant color ... it seems to convey a warmth that no other shade can muster. Tell me, can you resist?
I have never seen that color used in a kitchen....and I love how it looks!
ReplyDeleteYellow are beautiful! But, you do have to be selective on the tone of yellow you choce. I am a good friend of a gal that owns a paint store. I hear her telling people that all.. of the time. Yellow is tricky on the walls.
ReplyDeleteYellow is one of my most favorite colors. It is always so cheery and bright. I love it. I like to use it in floral arrangements and pillows and small doses, then I think it absolutely sings. Thanks for the lovely pics. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteMost of my rooms have yellow in one form or the other. I have a YELLOW Extera and a lot of yellow flowers. Kathy
ReplyDeleteGirl I love to see soft yellows but I can never pick a good yellow when it comes to paint...I still have a yellow bedroom that I want to redo...it screamed at me with the first brush stroke! lol
ReplyDeleteI love yellow! Much of my home is yellow. I've found Benj Moore's America's Heartland to be a great yellow and easy to live with. Just in case anyone wanted a suggestion.....
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the tip carol! We can all use a bit of help when it comes to yellow...
ReplyDeleteThanks for passing the message onto Twiz. I wish she's join us in blogland. Does she know we don't have trolls in the blogland homes and gardens? LOL
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to get her to start a blog. We all know she would be great. She is a poet. I love her, don't get me started on twiz...
ReplyDeleteYellows are a tricky color to get right, but when you do they are heaven.
ReplyDeleteThanks for you lovely comment on my post DIY Canopy Beds today. I am glad that you figured it out.
Kind Regards
Patricia
I have the prettiest yellow on my bedroom walls. Believe it or not it's called Honeybee Yellow from Behr. It's not too bright and not too gold. It's just right....Robyn
ReplyDeleteits funny, i was just watching a show the other day, Color Confidential and she said the same thing about yellow. My favorite would likely be soft and buttery and i love the hallway you posted.

In our previous home we had a small bright yellow room located below ground level (basement - laundry and sewing area) and I'm sure that room help sale the house. We had so many positive comments about it.
ReplyDeleteYellow has such a 'sunny disposition', but I have too have heard experts claim, it can be a difficult color to work with.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK Vicky!
I do love the buttery yellow in the last picture! It is yummy!
ReplyDeleteI like buttery yellow. I have it on our master bedroom and home office walls. It's very subtle, in fact it looks almost white in pictures...Christine
ReplyDeleteI love all these tips on yellow, thanks robyn! I am a neutral gal. The only color I have ever used in my own house is green for walls. I was a good mother and let my girls pick for themselves so we did have purple ect. My youngest still has a sunset orange, but I like it. I find it really hard to use color for clients as well, and wallpaper...forget it! I did once use yellow for a whole house and it was a hit. You would have to blind me to get me to ever use blue ...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your visit to hill country house. Yes, that is my house, for now. We are actually listing it for sale tomorrow! Time for a new adventure. I love yellow and have used BM #4 so often. I also had a bright yellow entry hall with a black and white checked painted floor once - loved it! Yours is a great blog - I am adding you to my blog list!
ReplyDeleteI so agree...buttercream is where it's at :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE yellow but have never done it for myself... it would be as accents I could switch out if I did though... I love it paired with white & black- so crisp!!
ReplyDeleteMorning.... isn't that funny, our dining room is yellow and I forget that it is, I guess cause it is easy to live with!! I just love your posts, they are lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteI love posts about color!! I think because people are a little shy about incorporating it into their rooms. Good advice about yellow. I think it's a pretty but difficult hue. Same thing with gray, another color that could surprise you. Thanks, -susan
ReplyDeletei'm not a fan much of yellow.I'll just say it looks much better on the bird.ha
ReplyDeleteI followed the recipe.i just put it in loaf pans---easier for me.i didn't alter the direstions in any other way.Glenda just made it this afternoon.she made me so hungry i'm almost ready to make it again.you won't be sorry.it is excellent.yummy!!!...Ann
Vicky...I am not a real Yellow fan...I like it as an accent color only..great post girl...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteoh yes g/f i KNOW you know exactly what you are talking about, thats why i cant get on here fast enough to read your blog and i almost whine if there isnt a new one up....lol
ReplyDeletei was reading your comment up above about how you use mainly neutrals, i love to use the odd bit of color just as accents but your comment reminded me of myself, i would almost feel bad because i need to surround myself with a sea of soft colors or neutrals but on the other hand i totally love color in a friends home. I did get brave one time and paint a kitchen blue, it was such a horrid blue, i couldnt live with it, and my next attempt for color was green, lol which i did like and still can use green and enjoy it. I was brave with my drum stool which is actually more green than blue in real life but its soft and i love it.
thank you for your kind comments and i look forward to your next post.
hugs
