Gray, Versatile Gray

Gray, like a tailored flannel suit, takes away all sharp edges, all harsh glares and is so wonderfully livable.
Reminiscent of waves on a overcast day, it's hard to "overdo it" with this flexible hue.

Gray works beautifully in formal or casual settings. It can also be either a cool or a warm color, depending on the tone used.

Joni, from COTE DE TEXAS http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/ shared this beauty with us a few months back . . . and because of this one photo, my daughter decided to do a gray kitchen in her newly built home. Thanks Joni ! So tell, me . . . What's your take on Gray ?

  1. I used to think it was dull and boring but this year I love it!

  2. I love the gray. It looks wonderful if paired with a lot of white or yellow, but otherwise I think it sometimes looks a little cold. The pictures you show are all just gorgeous. Hugs, Marty

  3. It's beautifully elegant but I couldn't live with it. Your examples are gorgeous. ☺ Diane

  4. I just painted my living room in Benny Moore's Abalone gray. Interestingly, on the fan deck strip, the deepest saturation is actually BROWN. But taken a few steps lighter, the gray is so beautifully neutral.

I was inspired from this blog entry at Door Sixteen

  6. I do like it, though my decor does not contain it. Quite a few years ago it was extremely popular but of course it had quite different undertones to thoseit has now, thus departed as quickly as it arrived.

  7. Hmmm... I find that the wrong gray can make your home feel cold and "museum-like" stiff. Be careful when you use gray, and if you do, make sure it's on the warm side. Stunning, though, when done right! Thanks for the inspiration!!

  8. Gray really isn't my cup of tea - although some sage greens can go that way, don't you think? I love that last kitchen, too. What a great inspiration. ~ Robyn

  9. * Vicky-girl, I absolutely L*O*V*E the first photo, and the kitchen, MUCHO!!! ~~~

The harsh, coldness of the "old" gray has now been reinvented here into a warmer, very welcoming-yet-still-QUITE-stylish, way (IMHO). It's uncomplicated & sophisticated, and I suspect allows the PERSONALITY of the INHABITANTS of the space to shine thru, WHEN they WANT it to!!!

    Terriffic posting today, gf!!! THANKS!

    Love, Linda *

  10. I lived with a grey living room for 2 years (all but one accent wall) and it was totally the wrong tone of grey for this room. Warmed up the walls by using porcelein instead. No one realized it was the paint that changed as it still has a sort of 'grey' look but with the right undertone. I think grey is like taupes and beiges -- you need the right undertone to go with the lighting in the room. If you get it right (like in your photos) it can be just stunning.

  17. Nice post. I love gray. Almost every color I choose for walls in my home and for customers has some gray in it, it makes everything look sophisticated.

The bedroom is exactly what I was describing to a client recently. I'm going to send her a link to your post.

  25. I've been surfing online more than 2 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.
