My Living Room

I few posts back I took the "Brinson Challenge", I was so unhappy with those photos! They were way too dark and my magazine cover had these green lines across it that I could not figure out how to remove. I am so bad with the computer stuff, it is a wonder I can do anything!

I don't know why it is, that my Living Room photos are never good . . . it is a pretty room, but never comes across as so. The green on the walls never comes out as it is, it tends to look busy because of the railing and the dining room with the mural behind it. I know I need a new camera, but what to get??? I need one that's easy to work . . . any suggestions?

I should do a post on the fireplace, it is gas, the surround is 2x4's , then we added plywood, covered with wire, then we put a product on called "quick wall" over the whole thing. The stone came from our own land. I designed it and my hubby and I did it one year for our Christmas present.

Here you can see the dining room in the background.

The room is sunken, you have a step down on each side of the room. The railing goes all the way across. I designed my home where it would seem as if there were no hallways. You are in the foyer and then follow this railing over looking the living room to the bedrooms on the other side. The master bedroom goes off the foyer. I hope this gives a better understand of the space. That other post was just killing me and I just could not let it go . . . lol

  1. OMG! I love your home. Love the sunken livingroom and what a wonderful cozy room you have created. I don't have a good camera either. I should get a good one sometime and take photography lessons. I love your wide planked floors. Can't wait to see more of your home.

  3. Your living room is gorgeous!

If you want a point and shoot, easy to use with some nifty options included, I recommend the Canon G11. We were at an ice festival yesterday. J used the Gll and I used my Canon Rebel Xti. Good shots, all around.

  7. You are toooooo hard on yourself! You room is beautiful. Love the rustic railing and the fireplace. GORGEOUS! I use a Nikon D50 and it's relatively easy. I know there is so much more I could do with it, but still learning.

  10. Beautiful spaces. Sometimes we have to try on someone else's "style" to be certain that we were happiest with our own in the first place. I love your choices and that dining room mural knocks me out every time I see it. Now, that's a bold choice that not everyone could pull off so beautifully.

Well? What ELSE can I say to beautiful, warm, inviting perfection???? Annnnd, WHEN did you get those DIVINE white sofas?~~~ They REEEEEALY look soooooo mahhhhhvelous!!! (GREAT for baby spit-up, too, huh, G'ma?)...

BTW, it all looks SOOOO SUNNY n' HAPPY n' BRIGHT!!!! What did you "do"???? (Maybe it's just the addition of TATE!?!?!?!)...It's so REFRESHING!!!

Biggest hugs to all!!! Back later, tho...Gotta see if Jim will "move a few lil' things around for me" when he returns from golf". I think that's one of the WORST things of the broken back & "recovery".... (I am not "ALLOWED" to move ANYTHING , & I get so, so, well, YOU know.... "anxious"! I want it done, and I want it done YESTERDAY!!! Is THAT asking so much??!?!?!!??!?!?! (Insert grins here!)...

  14. I think it's very pretty, Vicky! I understand how you feel about rooms not coming across quite the same way from in person to photo ~ kind of like people sometimes, I think. That looks like a great mural in your dining room, too.

  20. Love your living room! I would love a step-down living space. It makes it a special space and you really feel like you are 'entering' the room (unlike all the open-plan spaces these days).
So glad you managed to get clearer pics so we could enjoy seeing them:o)

  29. Vicky, I love this room it looks warm and iviting and very well appointed, You already know how much I love your mural. The wood railing and floors just add to the warmth. It is a really beautiful room and one I would enjoy sitting in and talking with you. I know what you mean about not being able to capture the room in a photo, I have the same trouble in my family room.I can not get a good picture to save me. All the pictures that I admire seem to be taken with a Canon Rebel I know nothing about it but everytime it is a good picture it seems to have been taken by the Canon. Pat at back porch musings would be the one to ask, Her photography is amazing. I love you room and I am really glad you posted it, It looks great!! Kathysue

  32. Love that fireplace, and is that another one in the dining room? And do I see a mural on the wall too? I want to see more! You sound like me, being too critical about pictures. I always heard it said that photography is all about knowing where to stand. I think you have that covered. -Lili

  33. Lovely!
    Really lovely!
I adore all the gorgeous wood your home has.

Regarding the photograph: try closing the drapes. Too much light will cause your image to come out pale.
