Design Tip

Has anyone noticed that I have a new rug in my Living Room? Notice anything odd about it? Yes, it has a lot of blue, but that is not it . . .

This is a "FREE" hand me down from a friend, not what I would have chosen, but I think it works. On the "back" side! Yes, I wanted it to be more muted so I am using it on the back side.

Here is a close up of the "front " side . . .

And here is the more muted, worn, almost needle point looking "back" side. Which do you like better? Don't be afraid to think outside the box. When you see something at a good price, or in this case a GREAT price . . . think before you pass it by, could it work used in a different way?

  1. I like the backside. I had a small hand hooked rug and used the backside as well. You could see the design better on the back. Good idea! How is that cute grand baby doing? sandi

  3. I've done this with fabric! Sometimes the "wrong" side is the "right" side!

  4. Must be something in the air ... I just now finished read a fashion blog post about wearing tops turned around (back side in the front). Whatever happens to work is the answer! Kudos to you for creativity!

  5. Love this idea! Lots of times I think rugs are to bright. And the muted ones are so expensive. Thanks so much for the tip!

  7. Freebies are wonderful. Other than a great find at a thrift shop, the freebies are great, cause you have to think of where to use them. Kathy

  8. Hi Vicky,
Your rug looks GREAT wrong side up. I am surprised at the blue, though...;) It is a very large rug, which is so nice. I try to think outside of the box when nothing is working quite right. So...what I did, when my living room rug was too small, I added the runner, which matches perfectly and is the exact same length, on to the side of it. It is partially under the chairs, but I think it looks okay.
Thank you so much for giving me your expert opinion about paint colors. Looks like beige will win out, stronger personalities than mine would not even listen to my reason for wanting grey. Oh well, I walked away knowing that at least I tried and I was nice about it. Not sure I can say that about the other party. Oh well...better luck next time. I appreciate your opinion.
    Hugs, Cindy

  12. I LOVE it. I love all the colours together it looks beautiful with your furniture and colours. :) If we ever get around to replacing our carpets and laminates with hardwoods, I hope I can find a rug half as beautiful as yours! (that I can afford hehe)

  13. Hi! Great ideas you got here. I'm designing my house for the Holidays and next summer, and I'm almost done. I think it's really cool how the carpet goes with the flooring. Torrance is very hot during the summer, so I'd like to have a good wood-designed floors in the house. My help and brother is kinda helping me out on the project. I told them I want the bedrooms to have hard wood floors (Los Angeles-inspired) for its relaxed feeling.

  14. Hi. Just discovered your blog today and already learned something new. I have a very similar rug that I've had for years and I've become a bit tired of it. But with your great idea, it will make all the difference. I would have never thought of it. Just a fantastic idea.
