  1. Yes, yes, yes! I've never liked any of the trends you picture here, because they are trends. There's nothing of "home" in a room that has nothing original about it. Not a fan of houses decked out in nothing but Hobby Lobby and Homegoods (not that they don't have their place) with nothing unique and of personal significance to the people who live there (ahem, my mother-in-law's house...)

  2. Ditto, ditto, ditto!! I so agree unless you have always had it in your home and it becomes a trend, that has happened to me. Married to yellow for 40 yrs and it became a trend and now it is not in vogue as much and I still have it, same thing with black and white.Sometimes trends will just hit on what one likes in their home but I agree with the re-do the entire house to keep up when the reality we are already behind because the design world is always ahead of us anyway!!! Good post, Vicki,

  3. Ahh the trend thing...Jenny did put up a great post and fantastic images and examples.

I don't mind most of them, it's just that everyting is getting so copied and the execution so often is completely un-original.

Also, it's a turn off when there are just too many trends in one spot. For example the chairs above: french chairs, with gray/blue paint covered in burlap, covered in letters, sitting on cowhide, sitting on sisal=trend overload!

I think decals are ok for kids rooms, dorm rooms, and maybe a 20 something in their very first apartment with little money and a lot of blank white walls they can not paint.

  5. I like to do my own style and I tend to stick to traditional. Trends get tiring to look at after a while...Christine

  6. In decorating, and in dressing, trends might be okay for a small addition...one that isn't too costly; you can't fail with the classics. But sometimes, in a small way it's fun to add an over-the-top accent...as long as you don't sink your whole budget in it.(-:

  7. Yes...a little of a good thing...but not in mass!! Kind of like clothes...learning how to edit is half the battle in anything. AND...just because it might work in one room, does not mean it will work in every room! I am exhausted from reading all of the post from MFAMB, but clearly entertained!

  9. So true Vicky, Avoid trends at all costs. However, as Kathysue said, sometimes things we have always surrounded ourselves with suddenly becomes a trend. Then what? I just hate when that happens! Don't you? haha. Can't wait to see #4.

  10. Thank you for visiting me, I'm finally pulling my head out of the sand to stroll through everybody's ideas. I don't care about trends, but I embrace innovation. Trends are ordinary and innovation is extraordinary. I love some of these trends, and they resonate. I like the train destination signs, industrial chic merged with classic European. At the end of the day, when we buy what we love, you have the perfect home.
    Best,
    Liz

  12. I'm not a trendy person as prefer 'classic' however they do have their upsides provided they can be changed out, not built in. Something like Fashion! -Brenda-
