Layers

How do I like to decorate a room? Layer by layer, the way a bird builds her nest.
The way an artist builds up paint on a canvas . . .

Breaking just enough rules and adding just enough surprises that second looks always reveal something new. How do you like to decorate a room?

"It's Good to be Home"

Home is where we spend a large part of our time ~ where we experience life's joys and escape life's hassles.
Whenever I return from a vacation I always think, it's good to be home. . .

I love my home, it's not big, or fancy, maybe a bit wabi-sabi , but it's where we live and love.

I do my best to make it attractive and comfortable, a very simple goal. But a high priority for me.

When you walk into your home and see your own bed waiting . . . do you too think, "It's Good to be Home?"

Delight Your Soul

Color just puts me in a good mood . . . I love neutrals, but color really makes me happy.
Fresh and springtime colors are so appealing at this time of the year.

I would remove that rug and then this space would be "Perfection".

Can anyone pass a pink and green color scheme and not stop and say, " ahhh "?

Loving the blue here . . . But then again , I always do when it is paired with green. Happy Memorial Day to you all.

Pet Peeves ~ Too Many Pillows

I have a few "pet peeves" as I am sure we all do. I thought it might be fun to add these to my list of "blog topics ".
Too many pillows is wrong in so many ways. They add visual clutter to a space , they make making a bed to complicated and then, there is always the fluffing . . .

And tell me . . . just where is one to sit?

Get to know Ms. Handegan

Charleston, South Carolina designer, "Amelia Handegan " is hands down one of my all-time favorites.
She is recognized by her extraordinary use of color. She can even make me like blue . . .

Her rooms have a comfortable elegance , but remain full of drama as well.

Be sure to check out her retail store, "Amelia" next time you visit the beautiful city of Charleston.

Even her flower arrangement can make one stop and take notice . . . I remember seeing this in a magazine. I tore it out for my files and continue to collect pictures of her work. So tell me, "Would you invite Amelia to brain storm in your castle?"

Black & White

Start with black and white any you will develop a color scheme that is as versatile as it is tasteful and ever stylish.
Strong in it's own right, the neutral non- color scheme gracefully accepts a vivid third element, but be sure to choose a hue bold enough to stand it's own with this graphic pair.

Chic, dramatic and yet so simple . . . black and white make a bold statement in any space. Would you consider this duo in your castle ?

Eclectic Mix

An eclectic mix of updated classics and natural objects is enough to make my own heart stop. . .
Playing with scale keeps it exciting and oh so interesting . . . I say, "Push the limits, make them wonder."

Add a bit of textural contrast, use subtle colors and most of all, let in the light. You will have a space that is surprising, fun and beautiful. Tell me, does it get any better than that?

Concrete

Concrete ~ tough enough to pave highways, so it is no wonder that it is becoming a popular hard-wearing surfacing material for the home.
My own bathroom recently joined in this trend setting show . . . it is a low cost, easy d0-it-yourself project, that I plan to do more of. What is your thoughts on "concrete?"

Green Glorious Green

Nature is so integral to coloring a space, we should always be on the lookout for inspiration.
With green there is so much diversity, sage, moss, and chartreuse are all great choices to choose from.

If you love summer use the "Summer Greens". For spring, go a bit more pastel. And of course if you are a fall gal, it calls for a earthier green such as moss.

I find green very serene and calm, it has a feeling of nature. I guess that is why it's my favorite. . . Which colors make you warm and fuzzy inside?

This One is For Joan K

Joan left me a comment that noted that most of the time I showcase rooms with white wood work. She asked if I could show some examples of rooms with dark stained wood work... Joan this is my own living room, I have stain wood work throughout my home.
I got this photo from Joni's blog http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/ If you don't know Joni, be sure to check her out. Cote De Texas is a big reason why I started a blog of my own.

Don't remember where I collected this photo. But I think this space is very inviting. I hope this helps Joan. Do I have anymore request out there? I will do my best ...

Cottage Warmth

The cottage style melds elements that are both humble and high-class, yielding a look that is warm and romantic.
Character of a farmhouse, wood beam architecture, chairs with rush seats speak to the vintage roots of this style.

Spaces such as these should have the look and feel of a room that has evolved over many years. Pieces have been re-worked and used in various ways in different rooms of the home.

As I am growing older, I am embracing this look more and more . . . I could sleep in here, could you?
