An eclectic mix of updated classics and natural objects is enough to make my own heart stop. . .
Playing with scale keeps it exciting and oh so interesting . . . I say, "Push the limits, make them wonder."
Add a bit of textural contrast, use subtle colors and most of all, let in the light. You will have a space that is surprising, fun and beautiful. Tell me, does it get any better than that?
Give me that wall of shelves, I could move right into that kitchen, I have always adored the oversized objects. I had the large 3 foot clock in my livingroom since 1990, BEFORE it was popular. I had to pay big bucks for it and my husband had a fit! I love the oversized objects, too. I have a large bunny statue on my livingroom coffee table and a very large apple on my porch dining table. I love that quilted fabric on the sofa. I had a fabric swatch home last year that was quilted but a subtle floral print. Of course, the store went out of business....It was called Newport News and it was a store that sold items that were supposedly manufactured at the same factory as PB and Restoration Hardware, etc. You snooze, you lose I guess. I also had the prettiest hydrangea fabric home about 3 years ago. It was just hydrangea leaves and annnabelle hydrangea heads in various shades of offwhite and pale greens. It was so pretty, but it was so expensive at the time. I think the sofa was thousands of dollars. It was in a store called Traditions. I put off buying my livingroom furniture because the colors have been so drab lately. But I see that is changing. I want something fresh and bright and fun. If my back will let me I hope to continue my furniture hunt this weekend. ~ Robyn

I LOVE that kitchen! Also like the huge clock over the chest. Eclectic is my middle name. If they come in, scratch their head, and look puzzled I know I've done my job. Make's 'em think anyway!

That kitchen is gorgeous! And I ADORE the old clock!
ReplyDeleteLove the blend of natural and updated classics. Even better if the latter is original and the scale is a surprise to the eye. Though I do love the kitchen featured, I must wonder if the coffered 'n textured ceiling would present a (cleaning) maintenance challenge.
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring pics. Thank you Vicky!

love the kitchen...wish I had a large kitchen
ReplyDeleteThanks so much sandi, I tried to leave you a comment, but unless it is super easy to do, I can not ...sorry.
ReplyDeletehi Vicky, thanks for stopping by and you are right i need something old, im waiting for this chest of drawers, it belonged to my grandfather, nothing fancy but i love it. My mom is going to give it to me when she gets it emptied...lol i plan to put it at the one of the sofa by the window. I did replace my picture above the sofa, its rather trendy but i have always loved it or ones like it, got it for a song and dance and i love it. One day i will have original art when my daughter paints me one.

That top room is perfect. I would not be able to speak upon entering. Love, love, love both the antique shelving and ceiling. So much character.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, absolutely beautiful photos! The cubbied hutch with all the drawers in top photo is my kinda hutch. I have room for it, just have to rearrange a little here and there. Would look awesome with my 'eclectic' look. Thanks for sharing these.
