oh these pictures are beautiful!!! Im not one to keep alot in our home, I must keep it simple for health reasons, which i find can be a challenge because at times i find i need to add something to make it feel more inviting or to keep our rooms from becoming boring. As a teen i babysat for this couple that had a home that was very very minimal, i had such an uneasy feeling in that house, it was so stark it left you feeling cold. I love the layered look on shelves and fireplace mantles. I dont have space for a fireplace in the living room, but i may do a shelf. Thanks again Vicky for taking the time and giving us that inspiration and sharing such lovely photos that we can learn from. You are appreciated g/f. hugs janet
One found piece at a time. Flea markets, antique sales & every now & then ebay, even a garage sale of retirees (they bought it long ago...hello vinatge): all of this always leads me on a journey & when I stand back, admiring the room its filled with memories as much as with acquisitions. Coveting the demilune table....
I like to think layering is no different when dressing ones self. Fashion and interior design really do go hand in hand when you think about it. That little jewel of a necklace or the addition of a Shrug can complete the ensemble whether it be tailored or not. It's still layering.
At my age I have paired down considerably in both regards due to the possiblity of downsizing from a large home to one smaller or...... the occasional 'hot flash'. (Winks)
As usual great pics and 'food-for-thought' Ms. Vicky.
I enjoy your layering - especially the white! oh my - and viewing other homes in layers. In my own home, I often end up paring down: when I layer, I seem to create clutter, lol!
I love the second photo. So serene. While I don't know if I could manage to live so spare, I always gravitate to those images!! I think my homes have layers, especially the small beach cottage where so many might want to go spare. But since it's my home-home (not just a vacation place), I didn't want visitors "to see it" in one swoop. Know what I Mean? Oh, sure you do ... you did the great post! -s
Oh, I'm definitely a layers kinda gal. I love to arrange vignettes. Love all your inspiring pics.

Hi there!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying your blog. Really like this layering look. So fresh and relaxing.
Since I was a little girl, I've liked decorating. Not so young anymore at 53, but still love what a person can do with their home environment.
Check back with you later to see what you've shared!
Blessings,
~Deanna~

At the moment too many layers in my house. Needing to peel away. Seems this happens every 2-3 years.
ReplyDeleteFeels good to get rid of things too.
Love your pics.

Beautiful photos & I'm drooling over the first one Vicki! Definitely layers but also seasons and feelings dictate how the layers fall. ☺♥☺ Diane
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I have a 'style' but I sure do love your approach!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI sure wish I had your gift for decorating. I just seem to struggle to get the final result I am looking for. Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteGreat pic's!! CHEERS! Michele
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI like layers, but not too many. During the warmer months I like to pare down a little.

Love the fireplace!!! Just beautiful. Kathy
ReplyDeleteLove, love these rooms! The more layers the better in my book and these rooms have surprises everywhere I look.

ReplyDeleteLayer by layer? I like that concept!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have said it better! I'm a huge rule breaker. For me, it's what makes decorating fun!
