There is something dramatic about a brown room . . . not quite as bold as a black or red room, but it does certainly make a statement.
It is somehow familiar and friendly . . . think of a
Hershey's chocolate bar or a
cafe latte . . .
Often associated with intimacy, and in years past used mainly in
libraries and bedrooms. Today brown is showing up everywhere. You can count on a "serene feel" in the space that uses brown.
There is now a increase of
appreciation for neutrals in today's decors and brown is taking a leading role. A hue I could certainly live with . . . how about you ?
Love it. I looked for a brown paint once for a dressing area and the color I knew I was looking for was exactly as you said - Hershey's chocolate. It turned out great!
ReplyDeleteSW Mink in our powder room, at home and in the kitchen and entry, here at the condo, is a very rich shade of brown. I love it.
ReplyDeleteOh I have enjoyed brown for a while now and just LOVE it. I painted my kitchen a deep dark hershey chocolate brown and I think it is fantastic. Love the pretty pics you've shown. All the rooms are so lovely. Check out my blog I am taking a poll to see who would like to join a Cloche Party. Let me know. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDelete* Vicky-girl~~~ I've been LOVING the browns for a quite a while lately (a color I used to "N*O*T like" (!) in ANY way, shape or form!!!)... I especially love it at THIS time of year, w/ lots of crisp linen-whites n' rich, dark brown & white THICK cotton/boradcloth geometrics... and in winter? ~ Sueded camels, creams, rusts, lavendars and a wool tweed or two mix with it to "float MY boat"!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Linda, I loved your many ways to use a beautiful hue, like brown. thanks for coming by, I always love it whenever you visit.
ReplyDeletelove - my favorite is the first image. love that!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicky...
ReplyDeleteHmmm...there was a time when I would have said yuk to brown! Hehe! But this wonderful neutral is growing on me! I have lots of brown in my new little frenchy studio/office!
These photos are beautiful...the brown offers a sofistication and classic feel!

Hi Vickster!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the contemporary look of the 3rd pic! My best friend growing up had a bedroom that was all brown...her favorite color. It was VERY cool looking! I always think of her room when I see a brown room...it brings a whole new vibe to a space! Love ya twin! L~
You know I am a brown girl for sure! Only one room in my house that is not some shade of brown, brown I am told brings balance. Brown with a big dose of white is a great combination. Love it.

I'm a brown girl. My family room is brown. All natural materials, leather furnishings, brick fireplace, wood panels, buckwheat walls. With, of course, my apple greens and reds spattered throughout. My friend painted her living room chocolate brown and it is so pretty. ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteAll the pics are lovely..yes, I could live with it! CHEERS! MIchele
ReplyDeleteAs a brown eyed girl what can I say but yay.
ReplyDeleteIts warm, inviting, cocooning & goes with everything. Use it as much as I love it.
OK, you know how you feel about blue, right?! Well, I have this thing about brown. (I have admitted to loving one very chocolate brown place, however. (smile). Well, here I go in Colorado...my scheme is turning to brown, gold/yellow and hunter green. Always green (my fave). Now, I'm laughing at myself.....Never say never, I guess. cheers, -susan
ReplyDeleteWe love our brown gathering room. It's very calming and the color appeals to everyone.
ReplyDeletevery pretty indeed. wanted to let you know that i did the blue and green monday color combo as per your request.
ReplyDeleteI could lick those walls they're so beautiful! Reminds me of chocolate ice cream!
ReplyDeleteYou find the most beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI always admire pictures of brown rooms and have thought about painting the mbr brown, then I start worrying about it being too dark. ☺ Diane
My friend has a brown room and has a blue ceiling. It is beautiful. Kathy
ReplyDeleteBoth masculine and feminine can't get any better than that.
ReplyDeleteAll pics are a delight! -Brenda-
You know how some women can wear brown and look divine and others end up looking dowdy? I think when it comes to decorating, brown is that kind of color. Key to its success is the right bones/lighting/accessories matched with the right shades of brown. Otherwise brown can look really dated and dowdy. Your pictures, of course, represent rooms that carry the shade well. Tempting....
ReplyDeleteI adore brown. But only light brown. Darker shades make the rooms feel smaller.
ReplyDelete* Morning! I'm not a pro, of course, so this is just "my" thinking ("out loud"), from a culmination of what I've read & seen, & a few experiences. We've all seen browns work & "NOT" work~~~ sizes of rooms, variations of the actual "COLOR" brown, style of furniture (& colors of furn., for sure!), personal style & preferences can make working with browns rather tenuous. I think ONE KEY tho, is a room that has ENOUGH WINDOWS/natural light to carry it off is something to remember. It's been so fun reading everyone's comments here~ glad you wrote about it, Vicky! Thanks!

(OOPS! Meant to add that sometimes a space is just "too big for comfort"~~~ the browns can reeeally work well, and make a great statement, in those situations, IMHO! I also LOVE to see a small, dark study~~~ I think THAT's just "sexy"!!!)~
ReplyDeleteoh vicky i love brown, we painted our downstairs bathroom brown and one day i hope to paint the living room brown. Just something cuddley about the color brown. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletehugs

Hope your day is going well. I just wanted to let you know our Cloche Party is scheduled for Fri. June 19th and Mr. Linky will be up on Thurs the 18th by 8pm. Some of the ladies are including their apothecary jars they decorate, so please feel free to show both or either. I look forward to your creations. Thanks. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by our blog! I have to say, brown is not a colour I would usually decorate with (maybe because we live in a hot climate) but I think these images look beautiful! Tracey xx
ReplyDeleteHi there
ReplyDeleteBrown is one of those colours I truly admire when people use it and your pictures are fabulous. Such a rich lovely colour. Its not a colour I would use at my place...at least not right now...but tastes change. Still love brown though.
have a lovely day
and come by and visit some time.
Judi
I love brown rooms, Vicky and these are lovely! Our family room is mostly brown....Christine
ReplyDeleteYou are right, brown can be dramatic, but also very serene feeling. I am loving the browns that I see. Those rooms are great! I enjoy your blog. Hugs, ~cindy s~
ReplyDeleteI love browns in my decor as well as in my attire. Like Linda/Mom said, Nothing speaks to me more then dark Brown paired with crisp white linens or pale blues and pinks.
ReplyDeleteNice photos!
Joy
Absolutely love brown in a room... it adds drama... love the first photo...
ReplyDeleteLove the colours but doubt if I could use them living in a hot country like Egypt. I might get away with a very cool shade of beige though.....
ReplyDeleteI think that what you said was very reasonable.
ReplyDeleteBut, consider this, suppose you added a little information?
I ain't saying your information isn't solid., however suppose you
added a post title that grabbed people's attention? I mean "Brown" is a little plain. You should peek at Yahoo's home page and watch how they create news titles to grab people to open the links.
You might add a video or a related picture or two to get people
excited about everything've got to say. In my opinion, it could make your website a little livelier.
