Brown

There is something dramatic about a brown room . . . not quite as bold as a black or red room, but it does certainly make a statement.
It is somehow familiar and friendly . . . think of a Hershey's chocolate bar or a cafe latte . . .

Often associated with intimacy, and in years past used mainly in libraries and bedrooms. Today brown is showing up everywhere. You can count on a "serene feel" in the space that uses brown.

There is now a increase of appreciation for neutrals in today's decors and brown is taking a leading role. A hue I could certainly live with . . . how about you ?

  1. Love it. I looked for a brown paint once for a dressing area and the color I knew I was looking for was exactly as you said - Hershey's chocolate. It turned out great!

  4. * Vicky-girl~~~ I've been LOVING the browns for a quite a while lately (a color I used to "N*O*T like" (!) in ANY way, shape or form!!!)... I especially love it at THIS time of year, w/ lots of crisp linen-whites n' rich, dark brown & white THICK cotton/boradcloth geometrics... and in winter? ~ Sueded camels, creams, rusts, lavendars and a wool tweed or two mix with it to "float MY boat"!!!

  9. You know I am a brown girl for sure! Only one room in my house that is not some shade of brown, brown I am told brings balance. Brown with a big dose of white is a great combination. Love it.

  10. I'm a brown girl. My family room is brown. All natural materials, leather furnishings, brick fireplace, wood panels, buckwheat walls. With, of course, my apple greens and reds spattered throughout. My friend painted her living room chocolate brown and it is so pretty. ~ Robyn

  13. OK, you know how you feel about blue, right?! Well, I have this thing about brown. (I have admitted to loving one very chocolate brown place, however. (smile). Well, here I go in Colorado...my scheme is turning to brown, gold/yellow and hunter green. Always green (my fave). Now, I'm laughing at myself.....Never say never, I guess. cheers, -susan

I always admire pictures of brown rooms and have thought about painting the mbr brown, then I start worrying about it being too dark. ☺ Diane

  20. You know how some women can wear brown and look divine and others end up looking dowdy? I think when it comes to decorating, brown is that kind of color. Key to its success is the right bones/lighting/accessories matched with the right shades of brown. Otherwise brown can look really dated and dowdy. Your pictures, of course, represent rooms that carry the shade well. Tempting....

  21. I adore brown. But only light brown. Darker shades make the rooms feel smaller.

  22. * Morning! I'm not a pro, of course, so this is just "my" thinking ("out loud"), from a culmination of what I've read & seen, & a few experiences. We've all seen browns work & "NOT" work~~~ sizes of rooms, variations of the actual "COLOR" brown, style of furniture (& colors of furn., for sure!), personal style & preferences can make working with browns rather tenuous. I think ONE KEY tho, is a room that has ENOUGH WINDOWS/natural light to carry it off is something to remember. It's been so fun reading everyone's comments here~ glad you wrote about it, Vicky! Thanks!

  23. (OOPS! Meant to add that sometimes a space is just "too big for comfort"~~~ the browns can reeeally work well, and make a great statement, in those situations, IMHO! I also LOVE to see a small, dark study~~~ I think THAT's just "sexy"!!!)~

  26. Thanks for stopping by our blog! I have to say, brown is not a colour I would usually decorate with (maybe because we live in a hot climate) but I think these images look beautiful! Tracey xx

Brown is one of those colours I truly admire when people use it and your pictures are fabulous. Such a rich lovely colour. Its not a colour I would use at my place...at least not right now...but tastes change. Still love brown though.

  30. I love browns in my decor as well as in my attire. Like Linda/Mom said, Nothing speaks to me more then dark Brown paired with crisp white linens or pale blues and pinks.

  32. Love the colours but doubt if I could use them living in a hot country like Egypt. I might get away with a very cool shade of beige though.....

  33. I think that what you said was very reasonable.
But, consider this, suppose you added a little information?
I ain't saying your information isn't solid., however suppose you
added a post title that grabbed people's attention? I mean "Brown" is a little plain. You should peek at Yahoo's home page and watch how they create news titles to grab people to open the links.

You might add a video or a related picture or two to get people
excited about everything've got to say. In my opinion, it could make your website a little livelier.
