The " Brinson " Challenge

Like many of you , I too was blown away by the Jan. issue of House Beautiful showcasing the "Brinson" living room. I rushed out to get my own copy, so I could study it and figure out, just what it was that I was so drawn too.
"The Visual Vamp"http://visualvamp.blogspot.com/ then did a post of her own living room that she re-made using Jill Brinson's for inspiration. I loved it and so did Joni !!!

Joni aka "Cote deTexas" http://cotedetexas.blogspot.com/ then did her family room in the 'Brinson style" and challenged blogland to do the same. I thought that would be so much fun . . . if I were not so lazy! But Joni, said, "Please" . . . So, I did a bit of shopping . . .

I got a new pillow, a shawl, some fresh flowers and a few apples . . . made a fake cow hide from a piece of fabric . Not much, but just enough to "Brinson" it !

My cover . . . yours is next!

  1. Don't ask me why my cover has that green line across it... I am hopeless at this computer stuff!

  3. vicki, what a fun post! Love the cover, what fun changes. I like the idea of giving a room such a different look. Thank you for the nice compliment you gave me. Alas I can not join the Brinson room makeover. I have a sofa with a print on it, no white sofa to work with otherwise I would totally join in on the fun. Great Job! Glad you like the pictures I sent you. Kathysue

  4. I have to admit that the room is really nice, truly lovely, but I'm unable to determine why all the fuss over this photo spread in HB? I read Joni's post the other day and couldn't figure it out then either.

However, that said, I love the mixture of muted prints in that comfortable brown and the furnishings in the room are flawless. I could only hope to ever have furnishings so lovely.

    Thanks for your note!

  5. for the first time in forever, I'll have to say nay ...I'm a little comfort princess ... there's comfort lacking here ... I love my soft ottoman and my "sink-down-into-funiture" ...
Let me clarify ... it's the Brinson room that's not floatn my boat

  6. Fun! I saw Valorie's and Joni's posts too. Isn't it something that this one room has made such an impact? It's even on my post today. The bandwagon's getting crowded!

  11. kathy, I just plain need a new camera. This room is so hard to do anyway. It is 30ft. wide, the railing is between the sunken livingroom and the dining room. It makes the photos look so busy, with so much going on in the background. That is why I left the lights off in the diningroom, to take away from that space so that the sofa would take front stage. I am not at all happy with the photos and may try it again , just styled the "vicky" way... thanks for commenting.

  12. EXCELLENT job Ms. Vicky!!!! Love what you've done. Perhaps if you check back with me in a year or two or three I'll be able to create a cover. :) (Gee I wish I could just move.)
    Many hugs -Brenda-
