I believe you can learn interior design, but one must be born with style. Design is a "Art", not a science.
Even the most talented designer will admit that arranging accessories is a trail and error process. One begins by looking for the similarities as well as the contrast among objects.
And we must not forget the all important "Art" of editing . . . when working on a space, remove objects until you can not take one more thing away; letting your room breathe . . .
But in the end, remember ~ Beauty is in the eye of the beholder . . . taste is personal. Period.
Nice advice. So very true.
ReplyDeleteI love the chairs in the 1st one.
Absolutely, taste is personal. I've read {can't remember who said it and if it was really just one person credited with it} that when you think you are done accessorizing a room, you should remove one thing.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, taste is personal and what makes one happy does not always make another happy. Do your own thing and love it! sandi
ReplyDeleteThis is a good post! I agree with you that taste is very personal. Not everyone has the same taste but we must be happy with what we do in our homes. Sometimes I'm happy, sometimes I'm not! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia :)
Amen Sista!! Taste is so personal. If we all liked the same thing it would be a very boring world. As I get older, I am definitely loving "less is more" look. I have really pared down and I am loving it.

I always love reading your posts, and that's great advice! What everyone else has said is so true also, especially about the world being boring if we all liked the same thing :0) Taste is definitely personal -and loving your home is the most important thing.
ReplyDeleteI am so agree with you Vicky about the fact that taste is very personal!

You are so right, one must be born with "style", and I was not. I am a very visual person and I have spent my life trying to learn Interior Design. I have never been to school for it, just from books and magazines. But because I love beauty and am continually seeking it and always have been, from as far back as I can remember. I was always fluffing and rearranging "stuff", trying to make my mom's messes disappear! You are also right about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Some people love my house and others do not, and they will tell me so. Ouch! Oh well, such is life! Hugs, Cindy S.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys for all the comments. And cindy s. I don't know what it is in some of us that love design so much... as a little girl, my mom told me I could design my own bedroom... I was 5years old, she meant that I could pick the color ect. I started talking about taking down walls... Even before that time I can remember swinging and turning my face towards the sun with my eyes closed... I would see the most beautiful interiors. Things I had never seen before, it is weird.
ReplyDeleteWell said, and so true!!! Thats how I see it,if something makes me smile when I walk past it,its good enough for the rest of the world!! Hsve a good weekend,Chrissy
ReplyDeleteI have always felt the art of Interior Design is no different from that of art of Fashion.
ReplyDeleteIn both cases it is a form of dressing and/or an application that requires an instinctive SENSE which can come naturally or can be learned.
For example, though each of us have our own personal taste, have you ever been invited to an affair and have had several friends call you and ask "what will you be wearing"?
Great post Ms. Vicky!!!! -Brenda-
Love this post - I do agree that design is an art. Sometimes I see a beautifully composed space, and it strikes me as sculptural, a three dimension piece of art.
ReplyDelete"And we must not forget the all important "Art" of editing . . . letting your room breathe . . ." How true that is! No wonder my husband's often throwing things away cos they are such eye sore around the house!
