My friend Linda's (RMS mom of a german shorthair) desert home showcases this beautifully. Linda's interiors echo the sheer beauty of nature. Take notice of how carefully she has edited her kitchen. The art of restraint at it's very best.
When the "Art of Restraint" is not utilized, the results are not visually pleasing, as is the case of this next kitchen. Though it belongs to one of America's wealthiest couples, with the resources to hire the most sought after designers... they somehow missed the mark. A classic case of the "Art of Restraint" ignored... What do you think?

I've always loved Linda's home. You're right about the 2nd kitchen. The tile is way to busy! It could have been stunning. ☺

ReplyDeleteI like allot of stuff less and less. Maybe the 2nd kitchen is a bit older...we certainly liked that cluttered look more in the 90s.
ReplyDeletemichelle, that is a great point and one that I did not even think about... you gals are so smart. That being said , however, I still stand by my less is more concept. When one uses the art of restraint it becomes so much easier to update. Thanks

As my 'old as dirt' memory fails me at the moment, who are the owners of the second one? :) Though quality and functional I presume; like yourself it just doesn't appeal to me either.

ReplyDeleteHow apropos your observation, my dear Vicky. You’ve made an absolutely astute summation of our friend’s home. There’s a seamless harmony between her inside and outside spaces featuring stone and wood as its unifier. I’d call it restraint, but in all its splender.
