First Impressions

Behind every front door lurks a mystery. If you are like me you can't wait to unveil it.
A homes entry will make a lasting first impression. The best will have ample space, a mirror , a closet just for guest, a table for keys , mail ect. and a display of artwork.

If you have a new home it should be among the first to be completed. If you have a older home, be careful not to let it fall into the forgotten spaces.



Remember you never get a second chance to make a first impression ... have you really looked at your own foyer lately?

    i agree, your entry can set an impression for the rest of the home. Problem is, i have never had an entrance that i can add much more than a small piece of art or a mirror. No room for a bench, shelf, abosolutely nothing and im always racking my brain trying to come up with something that adds a wow factor. In the home we are in now the entrance pretty much opens into the living room, and im still striving to make a hugh impact on the wall where my chair and drum stool is as that is what you see when you first walk in, but i have yet to achieve that...lol these entries you posted are a dream

    Oooh, I like the second one...with the staircase that looks like it's in an historic home! The entry/foyer is one of my most favorite rooms in a home...sooooo important...couldn't agree more! Susan

    I live in a very old house, the front door opens right into the living room, most everyone uses our back door, there is just a small alcove, but the mudroom/laundry room is right there with place to put your belongings and hang your jacket, plus send dogs with wet or muddy feet to be cleaned before decending on the rest of the house

    I completely agree with you Vicky! Love this post and your insight. I'm working on an entryway for a client right now. I can't get her to get on my "bandwagon" so I'm going to sent her to your blog. Oops! Maybe not, now that I've commented. I'll just show her the pics and give her your advice! Love it. You always read my mind! How do you do that?

    I have a garden question for you. I have an Annabelle Hydrangea that needs to be moved and divided. When should I do that? It is still in the ugly winter stage right now.

    carol, You can move the plant if you take enough dirt with it. BUT YOU CAN NOT DIVIDE A HYRANGEA!!! You can start a new plant from a peice of the old plant.

    Thanks for the tips. We currently don't have a table at the entryway but I did place some mirrors on the wall, artwork, shelves, etc.
    If we were going to live there for a longer period of time I would definitely add some other pieces.

    I agree with what you posted. It's interesting for me to visit my friends and some people's houses. And the first thing that I notice is their entry - how it looks. If it has fine designs, I would love to go back for another visit. My wife and I are doing some renovations in the house, starting with the front and kitchen doors (St. Louis home). And we found this replacement windows (St. Louis area) which are all great! Anyway, thanks for the tip.
